What would you put in a PaleoHacks FAQ?

We have a usage FAQ, but as far as I know, we don't have an actual question FAQ. If there is one, it isn't in an obvious place. I think when people come here, they often have trouble determining if their question has been answered before, and how to get a basic understanding of the paleo stance(s) on any given thing. It's really independent of votes on questions, because the highest voted questions tend to be specialized or unique. Tags are useful for searching, but they still don't provide a broad context.

So, my hypothetical question is, what would you put in a list of basic questions and answers for a newbie to read, so they know what the site is all about? What was confusing to you at first? What do you find yourself repeating in answers?

My example:

Q. Is the Paleo diet a low carb diet?

A. Although many PaleoHackers follow a low carb diet, many others do not. Being low in carbohydrate is neither necessary nor sufficient for a diet to be Paleo.

Good point. I really like the way it's set up as more of an index to relevant threads.

Done! And please add to it if you like. I also recognize that it's not quite the same thing you had in mind, but I guess when I came up with that question the idea was to fold it back in to the existing fabric of Paleohacks, if you see what I mean. Because if we had an "offical" faq about content (rather than usage) then people might take the answers as "official" answers. And how could we all agree on what the answers are? I mean, paleo is *obviously* low carb, but there are some crazies out there who don't think that! [Smiley face.]

Ah, yes! That's great. It's still rather obscure, though, but maybe less so to newbies than to me -- I've not more than skimmed the site faq since I started, since I assumed it hadn't changed. Maybe adding the tag "faq" to it would help.

I don't think we need one. I think the search engine here is tremendously effective. And since this is a discussion board it kind of de facto can not offer answers to broad questions like your example, no?

I, Sherpa Melissa, Familygrok, Ed, and others would put the following things in a PaleoHacks FAQ:

http://paleohacks.com/questions/28585/meta-what-are-some-good-threads-for-people-who-are-new-to-the-site

Just teasing with the sarcasm of course. Does this more or less fit what you meant? Do you want to add things to it? I'm guessing we set it up during a period when you weren't around very much.

There's a link to it on the FAQ, and I know that lots of people are looking at it, because it's gone from about 500 views to about 1,500 views in the last three to four months.
