What does FAD stand for?

I just can't find the full meaning of this abbreviation, so please help me satisfy my curiosity.

Oh Dear!Ed I don't like your explaination. I am totally against the Future American Diet! Where did you come up with this? Just curious as it rings of a grain (pardon the pun) of truth. As scary as it sounds its way to plasible!

for a day makes sense to me. the implication is that it's something that will only last for a day (even it actually lasts for longer).

Yes, as in FAD diet. Does it truly means "for a day"? Most of these FAD diets seem to be for a bit longer. I even wanted to put for-a-day as tag to state what a joke they can be.

The "fad" in "fad diet" isn't an abbreviation; it's a noun for "a practice or interest followed for a time with exaggerated zeal".
