Greetings guys and gals,

I am looking at the different cross fit groups in Honolulu. Anyone have a comparative experience they can share between the two gyms; Crossfit Oahu and Crossfit Hawaii?

Believe it's the same guy. Not sure what his schedule is (when he practices at which place), but I think it's totally worth it to call and ask.

I asked about them, he said he strongly recommends against their use for someone young who exercises lots -- and instead suggested that I get another lipid panel that directly measures LDL and breaks it into subtype patterns, so we can see if I have large/fluffy or small/dense. He was super knowledgeable, took a long time with me, and entertained my many questions :)

I've never talked to my MD about paleo, but I'm really happy with him. Dr. Kevin Adams at 1441 Kapiolani Blvd #1810 (BoH building) in town. I recently got a lipid panel, which showed high HDL, LDL, TC, and low triglycerides. Dr. Adams admitted that the results surprised him, and asked lots of questions about my family history (both parents have hypercholesterolemia), and my diet and exercise. He recommended reducing saturated fat intake (I told him I eat low carb, high fat) and wasn't fazed when I said I intentionally try to stay in ketosis. Not once did he recommend statins -- in fact, when

I highly recommend Crossfit Oahu. Although this is the first CF box I've joined, I've trained at many different gyms (primarily muay thai, MMA, and globo-gyms) and the coaching at CFO stands out as by far the best I've ever received. From a health and nutrition perspective, Courtney -- one of the full-time coaches -- is an RD and MPH who is very well educated about paleo. She's one of the only traditionally-educated medical professionals whom I will listen to for diet advice. Most importantly to me, the community is really tight-knit and positive at CFO, which is ultimately why I chose it over Hardass Fitness (no offense, Phillip).

I agree with Phillip, though, the best way to decide is to try both. Free intro classes at CFO are Tuesday and Saturday. Check them out, go to the trial classes at Hardass, and see which one speaks to you.
