Real Eggs in San Jose CA

I'm looking for good and properly pastured eggs in around the San Jose area. Got pretty sick of supermarket weak eggs. I want the powerful stuff. Any farmer's market near this area has it?

I use that CSA. The cheaper egg option is just glaums organic eggs. The more expensive option is solid though.

I volunteer at Veggielution Community Farm in San Jose and there's a small on-site farm stand open on Saturdays from 10 am to noon that sells pastured eggs and freshly harvested produce. Heck, I recommend going there just for the pleasantly friendly ambience as well as the opportunity for city folks like me to run my fingers through some moist, fertile soil. Hooray for urban farms!

Most of the Bay area Whole Foods carry Alexandre Kids eggs which are wonderful.

This may or may not be helpful, but if you're in the market for organic produce too, Eating with the Seasons (http://www.eatwiththeseasons.com) is a choose-your-veggies CSA that offers pastured eggs in their weekly bags. I can't speak to the quality of the eggs for another couple weeks, but I have high hopes. This is the only place I've ever seen them.

Pastured eggs are also available from Organic Pastures Dairy Co at the Cupertino (Vallco Mall) Farmer's Market on Fridays, and (I suspect) at the Campbell Farmer's Market on Sundays. At the Vallco Farmer's Market, you have to specifically ask for the eggs, as there is another egg vendor there. No matter, if you insist that you're an "existing" OPDC customer, hand the guy in the booth your bag and he will discretely put your "boneless chickens" in it. $7 per dozen the last time I bought some. They're awesome. Details of their egg operation are on their website at OrganicPastures.com.

I get pastured eggs delivered to San Francisco from this guy: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/grd/2227741323.html

He also goes to San Jose. $5.50 a dozen. It's pretty convenient. Good yolks. He names all the chickens and has trained his dog to gather the eggs.

The chickens get corn, scraps, greens, and whatever bugs they can find.

If any SF Paleohackers want to do a big weekly order, let me know. The egg guy doesn't have a lot of customers in SF yet, so making it out to the Richmond just for my couple dozen eggs is somewhat of an inconvenience for him.

Real Food Bay Area is a CSA that has pastured eggs all year round. Old McDonald's Market in San Jose (on Saratoga Ave, in an old Taco Bravo structure) sells them as well. At the Campbell's market, the eggs from Gilliam Farms are pastured, but finished with non-organic feed. There is another stand that sells eggs, but they are NOT pastured, just organic vegetarian feed. Mountain View Farmer's market has pastured eggs from Soul Food Farms, but only if you're a subscriber.

Campbell has a weekly farmer's market in downtown Campbell Sunday mornings at 9 to 1pm, I think. There is an egg guy there.
