Why is my poop so hard and dry but I drink so much water.

Answered on August 19, 2014

I drink at-least 8 cups of water a day. I decreased my fiber cause I was eating way too much, but still hard and dry and ball like and I have to force.

I just came off an oxy powder cleanse where my poop was grainy.

I just dunno.

I am glad it went well. However, make sure to eat fermented foods and other things that are colon-bacteria friendly. :)

I just went a lot this morning! I had to force at first, but then any time I passed a little gas (with no urge to eliminate), I ran to the bathroom and pushed. I think I have to retrain my rectum to poo, cause I just don't get the urge, but clearly have A LOT in me! And my poo just now when forced a lil was soft, not hard, but I assume it would become hard if left too long because of no urge! Great page on ;earning to poo again! http://web.pdx.edu/~sujata/FruitEze/education/colon/retraining.html

@ Caribbean. Try another probiotic, make sure it has prebiotic as well. @Matt - please do not say stuff you do not know. I had so much die-off, I know now exactly what it feels like. Obviously, you don't. Plus here is an article for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jarisch-Herxheimer_reaction

I dunno where to get more fat. And I don't really get how fat is paleo, cause I mean African tribes aren't even paleo...and they have been eating and surviving for years. I mean I don't even think they had access to so much fat. I really only do coconut, and fish fat.

I have been taking very expensive high concentrated probiotics for 3 weeks and nothing. I started supplementing with magnesium...nothing! I was getting more than 30 grams of fiber a day. I don't do dairy or butter. Coconut oil, coconut milk, and fish are my only sources of fat. I use to crave beef...no desire in the past month...weird.

Fiber, you're supposed to get 14g/1000kcal/day.

I have found that since starting paleo, there are times when 8 cups of water a day isn't enough -- I can drink that much and still have parched lips and a sore throat, along with other signs of inadequate hydration. Have you tried drinking even more for a few days?

95% out of 100% is that you are lacking beneficial bacteria - both lacto and bifido. Raw sauerkraut and pickles are sometimes just not enough.

Stick with Paleo but definitely, definitely add some probiotics AND prebiotics. Prebiotics are even more important, since probiotics need them in order to keep growing.

I can recommend 15-35 probiotic or Garden of Life, soil based. If you are having a reaction, it means you might have parasitic bacteria and it's a die-off.

I agree with VB. I had the same problem and it was solved for me by eating sauerkraut and home made yoghurt, although I like many of the suggestions above. Try them and see what happens.

More fat and possibly some MAGNESIUM like Natural Calm, which draws water into the stool.

idk what that cleanse is, and most paleo ppl don't recommend them. Make sure you have a decent fat intake, assuming normal GI you shouldn't have to force it out, be patient. If it persists for a few days you could try a small amount of milk of magnesia.

Fiber supplements will NOT necessarily fix this problem, and can often actually make constipation worse. I would try adding some more carbohydrates to your diet. Also, if you need temporary relief there's nothing better than coffee.

Eat lots of apples and pears.

Try rubbing extra virgin olive oil on your belly and lower back. Or just consume large amounts of olive oil. Fresh not heated.

Cut out butter for a while.

Cut out banana's for a while

Cut out avocado for a while.

Cut out potato's for a while.

Drink coffee and teas without any fats or sugars.

Drink Green tea.

Eat lots of Broccoli or any other crucifix vegetables.

Eat lots of raw almonds, and walnuts. Fresh not heated.

I would increase your fat intake and get more fiber. More fiber will help regulate the consistency of your stool and the fat should help things... Move along nicer. I'm not sure if flax fits into your eating plan, but look into the one minute muffin that low carbers use, except swap the splenda out for honey.

Fix #1- eat 3 or 4 prunes (De Noir brand is the tastiest), chew slowly and thoroughly, then drink 1 or 2 glasses of water. Wait 3 hours, repeat if nothing happens. I find beginning and ending my day with a bit of fruit helps keep me regular on this diet. Fix #2- chop up a large bunch of collard greens, boil in water with a bit of sea salt for 20 min., slather with some olive oil and eat, follow with a glass of water. This usually gets things moving! Fix #3- 1 tbsp ground psyllium husk in a glass of warm water. Mix well and drink quickly, it gells fast. Follow with more water. Good fiber, no carbs.
