Need help hacking multiple poops a day

Answered on August 19, 2014

It's rare I have one good movement during the day that cleans me out. If I don't, I just feel bloated and fatigued all day in the afternoon, and my body composition suffers.

Eating Paleo has not helped me 100% with this problem. I've tried fermented foods, kefir, more carbs, less carbs, more fat, less fat, more protein, less protein, more fruit, less fruit, no fruit, supplementation, probiotics, coffee, no coffee, more sleep, less sleep, no sleep. Nothing. It feels most days it comes, but its never well formed. Never feel cleaned out.

Always no grains, no legumes, no dairy. Been Paleo for 2 years now.

Any ideas? I'm tired of feeling this way.

Update:

I started to incorporate some of Ray Peat's ideas, in an ancestral fashion. They have been working. I now have one normal bowel movement a day. I slightly decreased muscle meat proteins, and increased a greater variety of shrimp and clams. I also focused more on ruminant animals, than pork/chicken/turkey. I replaced my starches with fresh fruits, as well as some dates after each meal. I still will eat some starch though. Generally, I'm feeling much better, and not going overboard with fat. I add some when eating veg, but I'm not taking shots of fat or anything. Not crazily eating heaping amounts of vegetables either. No OJ and milk though; I still don't believe that kind of caloric density is necessary.

I saw results within only a few days after starting qigong. I am following the way of Wong Kiew Kit, if that makes a difference. I was soooo miserable before starting my practice I was beginning with GAPS, but stopped to see if qigong would fix me, and sure enough, it did. I'm almost 60 days in and I'm like 5000% better than I was before I began. Good luck!

Um, I tried the probiotics for about a week, taking increasing dosages, starting small, in the morning, with just water. I don't think it did much. My stools are normal, they just "come" like up to 7 times a day. My doctor said it was because my anus is too tight. I never heard that before...and I was like, WHAT? I was on antibiotics (weakest ones) when I was a kid...like, in the teens, just b/c I was sick (once or twice, about 20 days each, so very little). I'm 22 right now.

New Chapter is a good company. I trust them. Still the dosing is important here. I packet of VSL is 450bill good bugs! How many billion are you taking or were you? Have you been on antibiotics anytime recently, or ever?

I was using New Chapter, since I heard it in Robb Wolf's Podcast. I don't think it's VSL3.

Tried probiotics...not sure if they were helping or not, as I felt funny sometimes, and kept falling asleep? Have not tried L-glutamine, but have a feeling it's not a fix-all.

I've tried squatting. Kind of works? But still need multiple trips to the bathroom.

Also, have you tried a hefty dosage of probiotics? you have not mentioned this. VSL3 makes a high quality product that is less expensive per "unit" than others when you compare it. vsl3.com.

Knarf- sorry. Very frustrating. Do you have an ND? I hope you can afford the Genova test (or something similar, say be Metametrix. I do not recommend you use DiagnosTechs however as they have screwed up several of my families' and friends' tests. Not worth the $20 you will save.

I don't think I'm that stressed. I'm just frustrated, since everything else is fine. It's not much to ask for a normal bowel movement. Sometimes I just want to rip my insides out.

What your MD odered is standard and... not enough. Very different than what I am recommending, it just ruled out the very basic things like Giardia. Hopefully it also ruled out C-Diff. Anyway, my recommendation to you stands. Look at the link. The anaylsis is much more comprehensive and worth the money. You will have to pay thoug likely.

I got a normal stool test from my doctor. Everything came back negative; stool cultures, giardia, parasites. He said that I was too stressed, and that nothing was wrong, and I should eat a fiber supplement and bran cereal. For obvious reasons, I'm not.

I actually do have a Sifu, and have taken this route. I probably don't practice enough, because part me thinks that it isn't stress, or qi-related. But the more I research...I may be wrong. I think it's because the results aren't instant, so I tend not to believe it.

I find squatting (both in preparation for a BM, i.e. while reading the morning news) and on the toilet helps me have a more complete BM. Cavemen did not sit on a throne.

Someone on this site recommended the book Fiber Menace. I picked it up, and it helped me to understand a lot more about the digestive process (more water and fiber is NOT necessary and in fact somewhat detrimental). As a result of reading the book, I have resumed probiotics along with L-glutamine. It has helped with problems similar to yours.

What about water? Are you dehydrated all the time? Drinking at least 1L before you eat anything in the morning is a good idea, also to keep drinking throughout the day.

Definitely sounds like you have a less than optimal GI situation.

I personally would do a comprehensive stool analysis and find out what in the heck is going on and stop having to guess. You will find out what is there that should not be there (bacteria, parasites etc) and also you will find out your levels of healthy bacteria.

I would bet money that you do not have a healthy level of friendly bacteria in your GI tract.

Genova Diagnostics is excellent.
Test is called: Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis (CDSA)™

You sound exactly like how I used to be. I started qigong practice, and now my poops are totally normal, regardless of what I'm eating. It's total night and day. Is it my "qi" healing my gut, or the benefits of stress-reduction? No way to prove either way, probably both. See if you can find a local teacher (Sifu), or try an alternate stress-reduction technique, is my only suggestion, or a good acupuncturist. You'll drive yourself insane with endless dietary tweaks.
