What the heck are these Lumps in my legs & can I tweak my diet to help?

I???ve been Paleo for about 7 months now after discovering I am Celiac and been seeing improvement on a lot of fronts.

Unfortunately I???ve still got one thing that Paleo hasn???t seemed to help with- in fact I???m worried that it may be getting worse more quickly with my new diet- I have multiple hardish lumps laying in/on the surface of the muscle in both of my upper legs.

They are not the typical lipomas that some of my friends have. Theirs are softer and seem to lay closer to the skin - more in the layer of fat above the muscle. Mine are much firmer and seem to be rooted in the muscle and extend just slightly above it. They are only noticeable if you are massaging the skin, not just from visual inspection.

On a positive note, the biggest lumps seem to have shrunk somewhat since going Paleo, but the numbers of lumps seem to be actually increasing quite a bit lately. I???ve noticed 5 new ones in the last 2 months (unless I???m somehow noticing them more as my body composition slowly changes- I???m not completely ruling that out).

I just discovered another new one tonight on my lower right quad. I noticed it due to some random muscle spasms in the area (VERY unusual for me, but I???m not sure it???s related).

I???ve asked several doctors what they were in the past, but no-one could answer me.

1. Does anyone have any idea what these lumps could be and if so should I be worried or just relax?

2. Has anyone tweaked their diet to eliminate or reduce similar (hopefully) benign growths?

Brief overview of common foods in my diet:
Grass Fed/pastured beef, Lamb/pork, uncured bacon, free range poultry
Sardines, salmon, other fish
Buffalo Cranberry bars
Lots of free range eggs
Dark leafy greens 5x/wk Root veggies: Yams, beets, carrots 3x/wk Dark chocolate 1 square a night
Almonds, Cashews or walnuts -handful a day
Grass fed butter occasionally, but in large amounts- 3/4 stick about 1x/wk
No other dairy
Minimal fruit other than berries(2 apples a week)
Rare nightshades 2x/mo (tomatoes and very rarely potatoes)

They have been tender off and on- I noticed a couple times that they swelled up after being exposd to soy or gluten (I have major problems with both of these, but I wasnt sure if the swelling was just a correlation with overall systemic inflammation due to the exposures.

Are they painful? Tender? Hot? Have you had an injury to that area of your leg in the past? Normally I would say, go to a doctor but I see you have tried that route several times over. I know there are several different types of lipomas so it is still plausible.

I don't think so, they're fibrous hard lumps that are generally oval shaped and range from BB sized to marble sized...

A friend of mine also had them but when I convinced her to go paleo they went away. Her dr said it was an allergic reaction but that they didn't know to what. He said potentially birth control. Are you on ant medications?

They might be lipomas. Benign but annoying. Paleo hasn't helped mine.

you might ask an RMT. perhaps an experienced one has encountered this before. some offer free consults, so you could ask if this is a condition deep tissue massage could help?

That is so bizarre that you ask. I have the same thing in my one leg, outside of my thigh, and for about 12-18 inches of "lumps". It is definitely in the tissue, deep. I just noticed them recently. I have been trying to "massage" them out, but I haven't noticed any improvement.

Could they be varicose veins?

I can say I have a bunch of these and have been working out regularly for 15+ years. I just started that foam roller and it is very painful. If I had to GUESS I'd say they are some sort of toxin build up that needs to get worked out by deep tissue massage or the foam roller. I'm hoping this will work.
