the filth of modern society...paleo solution ?

so just to give you some background, i am a young male who has been very sick for the past two years, went to numerous doctors (over 10) and could find nothing wrong

long story short i had two parasite infections, protozoa and pinworms. i had over 30 symptoms and was pretty much house ridden for two years...interestingly upon further reading, it is now known that over 70% of the us population has parasites!

3.5 BILLION people worldwide have parasites.. it is highly contagious, so you can wash your hands and use hand sanitizer all day but once you touch anything other people touch, the larve of the parasites lingers so you can easily catch it

now i understand its just "part of life" but now that im under treatment for this, i have a quasi fear of going out in public and touching anything that the rest of humanity touches..parasites can mimic a wide array of the most common ailments of our time including,

-chronic fatigue -ibs -allergies -weight gain/weight loss -massive vitamin deficiencies -mental problems -depression

There's no doubt that a large majority of folks have parasites. Just like everything supports bacterial infections/colonies as well. Most parasites are harmless. Now if the claim was that most folks (70+%) have harmful parasitic infections, that's something that's unsupported.

Ah yes I SEE now. Clicking through to your link, for those whose eyes can stand the blinding glare, there's a "wonderful" sales page with an oh-so-prominent LINK to the ultimate cure for parasites (all prices in New Zealand dollars). Still no references, no studies, just a bunch of Doc's with all the credibility of Oz (aka: none) telling us all we're going to hell in a handbasket, but "please deposit some money here in my pocket while you're in transit." I no longer think LikesLardinMayo is correct, but it's not her fault. She didn't have the "benefit" of your "superior" knowledge.

Jake, calling names on here is not going to encourage anyone to want to help you. And take any of these statistics with a grain of salt.

i think cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) could be very helpful. Like Jake, I also have certain fears related to my IBS that have, in the past, taken control of my life. Therapy really helps.

I second that suggestion. Or perhaps it triggered some OCD/anxiety type stuff for you. Just think it over, and try to keep everything in perspective. :)

JayJay and Wisper are right on. I'd also add that healthy people tend to kill off parasites pretty well. Being asymptomatic for disease doesn't always mean robustly healthy.

@wisper, i was extremely healthy before this happened, and im certain it was just a bad luck type of deal or wrong place wrong time because i was extremely healthy before this ordeal, so i guess my question was is their any steps to prevent this again, minus eating paleo, etc..

What's the question? It's part of life as you conceded, and healthy individuals will not have any issues with everyday parasites.

I can relate: I refuse to go camping here in New England because the one time we did, we ended up covered in ticks, including deer ticks, one of which I took home with me. I've been dealing with (and now healing from) health problems for the past year which resemble lyme disease, so the last thing I need is to get lyme disease on top of that. It sucks to not camp, but we can camp once again when we move back to the West coast.

No joke, and no snark. If you are feeling unclean just touching stuff etc... you got some PTSD stuff brewing that is gonna mess you up long term. If this is hyperbole carry on. If it isn't I'd seriously talk to someone like a counsellor and I'd try some meditation or active relaxation.

Please cite your source, jake, to show that "it is now known that over 70% of the us population has parasites!"

I did some Googling and could only find the vaguest reference to "some experts" (unnamed) "estimate that over 70% of the population has parasites." And then it goes on to say that it is "likely that over half the population has parasites." Further discussion from this same source reveals that people who have parasites feel ill and "suffer needlessly." So it's unlikely that people who feel well and healthy have reason to be concerned that they will suddenly come down with parasites.

You will notice that these Google references cite no sources, no studies, no references. They just pulled it right out of their ass (maybe literally!) I suspect LikesLardinMayo is correct.

And yes, I'm serious.

Anxiety is also a symptom of Lyme/co-infections. I know, because I got it bad before being diagnosed with Lyme/Mycoplasma Pneumonea (another symptom is that of PTSD). All the symptoms you mention having are possible Lyme symptoms (everyone gets their own personal constellation and timing of symptoms, with possible months or years of dormancy).

Unfortunately, most doctors or specialists do not know how to diagnose, test or treat this cunning disease. Some reasons why are touched on in this trailer for a film documentary on Lyme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5u73ME4sVU

I went to doctor after doctor with all of the usual tests showing nothing. I was finally told I was depressed and hyperventilating. I went to a therapist, and she didn't think I was depressed--she thought I had Lyme. I started googling with an open mind but soon had an explanation for many symptoms and years of pain and confusion. I tried one more specialist who glared at me when I asked to be tested for Lyme and said chronic Lyme doesn't exist. I finally found a Lyme Literate MD and am being treated and slowly getting my life back.

Lots of really strong, non-germ-phobes get Lyme to the point of debilitation. There is now bucking up and warding it off by iron-will determination if you get bit by the wrong tick.

Anyway, you may want to look into Lyme/coinfections as a possible cause of your symptoms. I'm sorry this has happened. I know how it feels.

The general thinking on this kind of thing seems to be that you were susceptible to those infections because your immune system was weak. So once your immune system is stronger (assuming you're aiming to achieve that with your treatment plan) then going out in public will be no concern, as your immune system will be able to fend off parasites and other infections agents.
