Sally Fallon looks strange..

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created June 06, 2012 at 8:22 PM

I was just wondering why the person who seems to have a ton of knowledge about what it means to consume a nourishing diet seems to be more overweight, strange puffiness (looks like sjogren's syndrome in many ways)..etc ever since she seems to have adopted this type of diet. I know a lot of people on 30 bananas criticize her for it and was just wondering what a good explanation for this is....

Funny, I was just wondering how it would be possible to make a medical diagnosis with nothing more than a photograph and bad logic.

Dean Ornish obviously dyes his hair, which doesn't help with the dryness. And he's just a couple of years younger than Sally Fallon (who is 62 or 63). Seriously, he is not one to talk.

+2 1.) For asking people to lay off the gurus. 2.) For calling out Durianrider...not sure I would qualify him as healthy-looking though. And Freelea looks about as modified as the fruit she's been eating (and before someone says, "Lol she eats organic" it's already been proven that even organic fruit has been breed and cross-bred to produce sweeter and larger variations of the fruit, so while it may be organic, it certainly isn't untouched by human hands).

To be honest, I'm getting freaking tired of the pressure 'gurus' have to put up with. It must be awful to be considered a health advisor and get tons of critique because you don't look perfect. Take Ray Peat : the guy is 78, how many people have already mentioned his slightly receding hairline, his 'non-perfect voice'. I think he has better skin than me, and his 60 years older, but everybody seems to emphasize the little imperfections.

I wasn't able to find Sally Fallons age, but she sure looks fine to me. She has this vitality in her eyes that I find interesting. The slight puffiness suits her IMO.

Often it's the people that managed to get healthy easily that have the arrogance to critique others. Durianrider is a perfect example of that, but there are many many others. The idea that there is no ultimate diet that works for everyone (at least not at the moment) doesn't seem to be understood by everyone. Maybe some of us should take a bit more distance from their own anecdotes and make room for other things. It's almost as if we're trying to get healthier than people around us so we can laugh with them afterwards.

Durianrider calls Sally Fallon a fat cow. Compared to him I guess that's true, but as he does nothing with his life, his friend Freelea shows off with her breast implants and Sally Fallon reads science, books and tries to educate people around her, I think I know who I like the most.

She has a nice wide jaw which probably indicates the healthy diet she is on that led to proper bone formation in her face. We are used to the pinched narrow faces of malnourished grain-fed people. Her skin looks lovely. Jeesh, even Mark Sisson has bad pictures days (though not many to be sure). Lay off.

Sally Fallon is not paleo. She is almost as critical of paleo, at least Loren Cordain's version of paleo, as people like Dean Ornish and John McDougall.

Has anyone seen Sally Fallon in person the last couple of years? Her photo on the back cover of her book Nourishing Traditions second edition she looks fine. However, Dean Ornish claims she is obese. I just checked photos on the WAPF web site from the most recent conference are back to 2005 and the photos are so small you can't get a good look.

By the way: Dean Ornish looks like hell. He has a double chin and his hair looks so dry you would think static electricity would set it on fire.

She's pretty amazing for a 76 year old. What did they expect her to look like, Britney Spears or something? I don't know if she's 100 percent paleo, I don't think it's what makes or breaks her looks. The fact that she still eats better than most people and look better than most people her age is what proves that paleo is better than SAD.

The folks at 30 BAD criticize everyone who doesn't eat the way they do. That's part of their schtick. They pick on Jimmy Moore because, even though he's a long way from his maximum of 400lbs, he's still fat. They pick on Mark Sisson because he looks too good, and accuse him of using HGH. And they pick on Sally Fallon because she's a 62-year-old lady who is not a gym rat or endurance athlete, and who has a higher body-fat percentage than they find ideal.

I googled for some recent pics. Is she carrying a bit of extra weight? Yes, especially in the belly. Does her face look a bit puffy? Yes.

But do I know enough about Sally Fallon (in general) and her current diet or state of health (in particular) to be able to pass judgment on what's going on? No. I have no clue.

And here's my take on it: I want to restore and maximize my health to the greatest degree possible. I'd like to be spared debility in old age. So I take the information given by people like Sally Fallon, Mark Sisson, or anyone else, and try the stuff that makes the most sense (once I've considered the science). But I don't expect the messengers to be perfect, and I also accept that there are no guarantees that I (or the messengers) will remain completely free of all diseases and ailments forever by doing so.

So no, I have no idea what's going on with Sally Fallon, but frankly, it's irrelevant to me. Whatever is going on with her right now does not invalidate taking an ancestral approach to diet, and it doesn't cancel out all the fit, healthy people who have followed her guidance.

She doesn't look bloated and certainly doesn't "look" like someone that suffers from Sjogren's syndrome. Do you have nothing better to do than critique the appearance of others? I hope I have as much energy and tenacity as she does when I'm her age!

jackson- how unfortunate it is that you have failed to include a (gr)avatar with your account, as it would make comparative critsims about one's diet and their physical aesthetic appeal much easier.

I'm also really a horrible person and typically assume the worst about people, and you're no exception to that. So in my minds eye, the standoff betweeen you and Fallon is not in your favor.
