Hi, Im a bit of a newbie to the Paleo diet, but have always hit the low carb thing whenever im trying to shed weight. Im 37yr old woman, 5ft 6 and I weigh around 60kg. I have no idea how to calorie count but im doing the whole sugar, gluten and processed free thing, and with the exception of a little cheese, im not doing dairy. For breakfast I usually have 3 egg omlette with 3 pieces of bacon and some spinach, half a tomato, a few mushrooms and onion and around 80ish grams of pumpkin, all cooked in either olive or coconut oil. I havnt been eating any fruit as I live in New Zealand and its only apples, pears and bananas which arnt my favs. For lunch I have been making a coleslaw with cabbage, carrot, celery and a little cheese and I usually have that with an avocado and a boiled egg and some meat/tuna. Or I make a stock out of my vege peelings, roast some carrot, parsnip, leek, pumpkin and make a soup and have that instead. Dinner is either the coleslaw salad and meat, usually half and half, or roasted pumpkin, carrot, parsnip and meat and the same amount, usually half and half. I don't really weigh up my amounts, I just eat till im full. I don't snack as I don't feel the need to, and I generally eat my breakfast/lunch/dinner at no set time, just when im hungry. For exercise I usually do rather steep hill walks, with some flat work which I run and the last km I practice sprints. All up its averaging 8.5km and I do that 5-6 days a week and every alternative day ill throw in 100 squats. I cant do any weights or upper body working out at the moment as im having a disc replaced in my c5/c6 area with spinal fusion, normally I paddle outrigger canoe competitively and for fun but as its winter and im unable, im just trying to do as much exercise as my body will allow. Im trying to get as lean as I can pre-op, as I don't know how long ill be out of action for, and I need my recovery to be fast as nationals are coming up in Jan and I want my seat in my crew. Basically, what im asking is, am I eating too much pumpkin? Whats the story with ketosis?

I cannot believe one can eat too much pumpkin. There are paleo populations who eat 60% calories in sweet potatoes, nutritionally very similar to pumpkin, and they have no diseases of civilization. I think you are doing very well.

Sounds like you are eating very healthy. You don't need ketosis to lose weight, and many people experience hormone issues going too low carb. Keep up what you are doing.
