Myth or Fact: You develop allergies to foods you eat often?

Is eating the same food almost everyday a sure way to become intolerant to that food or is that just a myth? Traditional cultures seem to have no problems , I think, from consuming the same thing day in day out.

Luisa what you say makes sense. There are degrees of Leaky gut though for sure.Mine was mild, not severe but thanks for reminding me that I didn't add the supps till 30 days of diet changes, probiotics & PermaVite, then added the supps (Uqiquinol, R-La and others).I had an ND & Nutritionist helping me. The PermaVite is for healing leaky gut and it works for many. There are other supplements too GI Benefits from DaVinci Labs is also good. Im surprised you were able to heal it in less than a month though as my understanding is the that it takes longer than that for the lining to re-grow.

Hiya Shawn, the biggie is simply to stop eating things that cause leaky gut... simple plan would be to eat only meat/fish/broth/dressings like olive oil + lemon with non-starchy veggies and fruit on its own. I had a lot of fruit... making meals of just one type of fruit. So... when your hungry in the morning you could go with fruit, then a few hours later, meat + veg, then fruit, then meat + veg etc. Nice and simple.

Yeah, in cases of intestinal permeability I'm under the impression that you one can become intolerant to anything, aesecially those foods eaten frequently...

fermented foods without healing intestines first would probably hurt, dont ask me how i knpw :-! supplements with damaged intestines is probaly a waste of money since your body probably won'r be able to absorb most nutrients from it. Heal first! :-) With half assed Gaps my 5 years of food sensitivities went away in less than a month... so lucky!

Shawn I can tell you from vast personal experiece that the quickest way is to stop any and all offending foods (for you, you have mentioned dairy and gluten) and use supplements to heal your gut. Then, you may in fact be able to eat those again, if you want, not a recommendation, just saying... please look at PermaVite by Allergy Research Group. I worked for me and my son & several friends and clients - like 20. In addition to probiotics and the other things I have told you about.YOu can likley do it with diet alone (like GAPS or maybe Paleo) & fermented foods but it will take a lot longer.

Did you do anything else in particular to heal your gut aside from dropping wheat? Such as supplements, etc?

My son has a "true" allergy to brazil nuts which could kill him. My feel is that the rest is intolerance due to leaky gut. I was "allergic to everything" and they all went away when I stopped eating wheat.

Gotta heal the gut.

Robb Wolf says something in this regards in his podcast. Basically he says that eating for instance eggs everyday could be a problem - not because of cholesterol of course - but because you are eating the same thing every day and he specifically says that he does not like to eat anything that often as one could develop some intolerances.

I find this a bit of a problem, i.e. variety. I feel that in paleo (plus histamine intolerance), once I find food that I digest well I tend to stick with those way too often. In my opinion this is also a problem in terms of micronutrients ratios and deficiencies. One should make an effort of varying his diet a bit.

Well, I am allergic/sensitive to eggs since a week ago, after eating an average of 5 per day for a while. (Swollen throat, rash) So, I'm pretty sure it's possible, at least for some foods.

No more eggs for me for a while :-(
