Keto: Ok to eat say, a piece of cake- if carb count for the day is not exceeded?

My brother bought me this awesome vegan chocolate ganache cake from whole foods for my birthday. I couldn't help myself to eating about half a slice, give or take... I know the carb count for what I have eaten is close to around 13-15 countable carbs. Question is- is it okay to eat foods like a piece cake so long as you are eating within your carb count? My carb count for keto is 30g-40g a day. Also I should mention I am going to do some kickboxing on the heavy bag, do hiit on the treadmill for 20 minutes and weight traning on the total gym in about an hour from now. Thanks for any help! Much appreciated.

This is a reasonable answer. If you've determined that none of the ingredients causes you acute, obvious problems, then there's nothing wrong with eating it as an occasional treat no matter how not-paleo it is. But if your question is how often you can eat something like that, then the paleo arguments for not eating those ingredients is more important than the simple carb count.

Similar to most things...n=1. If you eat it and are still in ketosis, I'd say you're fine. Some people CAN eat it and remain in ketosis, others will get knocked out immediately.

So if your pee still smells and your mouth tastes funny, you have a good carb tolerance for ketosis...

Cake is pretty much the poster-child of not paleo.

Instead of worrying about carbs and ketosis, and if wheat and whatnot in the cake wasn't bad enough, you should be concerned with whatever made that cake "vegan" and not "normal". Seed oils, binding gums, etcetera - not a pretty scene.

So no, for paleo it's not okay to eat this kind of stuff, regardless of carb count. Granted, to each their own -- the paleo-police will not come a knockin' if you eat more cake.

Have a happy birthday and have a piece of cake. Life will suck if you're THAT worried 24/7. Be healthy, be happy and don't stress. Don't eat the WHOLE cake, but enjoy it at least a little on your birthday!
