Is the Palaeolithic (or Stone Age) diet just another Hollywood diet?

I was reading this "insightful" article by nutritionist Sue Radd (www.sueradd.com) in which she explains the dangers of the Palaeolithic diet. A must read from just another "specialist" in human nutrition -> http://sueradd.com/columns/foodcolumn01_0.pdf

I believe the author fell into a cryo-chamber in 1972, and has awakened in the modern world to finish her article. At least this is what my family believed in the '70's. The results were not what the article says they should have been.

Where does the "Hollywood diet" come from? Those following the paleo way probably eat more vegetables than vegetarians.

Between the references to the "theory" of evolution, the citation of the Seventh-Day Adventist studies, and the referral to Sanitarum (a Seventh-Day Adventist organization) this is clearly a propaganda piece for the Seventh-Day Adventist "health message." The Adventists are the folks who are responsible for modern commercial cereal foods being part of the SAD (see http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blcereal.htm) and heavily promote vegetarian diets full of whole grains as part of their prosletyzing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh-day_Adventist_Church#Health_and_Diet). So, yes, not only does the author not understand the Paleo diet, her religion forbids her from embracing or promoting evolution or meat-eating at all!

as is typical from people promoting a vegetarian argument she confuses life span with life expectancy. paleolithic life span was the same as today as this is fixed to the species. life expectancy was shorter primarily due to lack of technology.

vegetarians have a lower incidence of some cancers, but a higher incidence of others. vegetarian societies also experience a higher mortality due to accidents and violence (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2011469/) suggesting cognitive and behavioral detriment.

she can cite "experts" and "doctors" that disapprove of and ignore those that support the diet if she wishes, but the latter is growing.

Hmm today I was thinking today that my great-grandparents pre-kelloggs diet was pretty close to paleo. Meat and potatoes was the old SAD, before miniwheats and corn flakes showed up. And tacos and chinese takeout - come to think of it they're part of the current SAD diet too. A pyramid with 10 servings of fast food at the base.

If you ever visit Battle Creek you'll see the Adventist veg diet connection, side by side with the cereal factories. A visit to Lascaux is more inspiring.

I stopped reading at

"These diets restrict both types of carbohydrates???the refined, and the unrefined or wholegrains"

So there are only two carbohydrates... refined and unrefined grains.
