How do you lose weight and/or fat ?

So, you are eating a near enough vlc paleo diet and consuming plenty of fat and taking in 2.5k-3k + calories per day. Will you lose weight without reducing the calories? If so how?Your body will use the fat instead of the carbs but surely it will use the dietry fat first and unless there is a deficit it won't use any of the body fat. I have read that people lose weight without calorie reduction but I don't inderstand the mechanics of how! Have I missed something obvious? Thanks.

What you may have missed is the effect of insulin on weight.

The first key to losing weight is to minimize your insulin level. Insulin controls the storage of calories into fat. You can see this in Type 1 diabetics: if they don't inject supplementary insulin, no matter how many calories they consume, they won't gain weight. For those of us with a functional pancreas, reducing carb intake and keeping fat intake high will get insulin levels low and help to keep them there.

You also should be aware of things that can cause insulin spikes, such as artificial sweeteners, casein (from milk), large amounts of protein, and even the smell of sweet food.

You can also do things to increase insulin sensitivity, such as resistance exercises (weight lifting, Body by Science, etc). Some supplements may help in this area, too, such as alpha lipoic acid or carnitine.

Once your insulin level and sensitivity is under control, some people still won't lose. At that point, you can start to reduce calories. However, most will find that the level of calorie reduction required to lose will be much less than it would be otherwise.

Dr. Kurt Harris wrote an entire post on this subject here. Richard Nikoley, very recently wrote a post that also seems to be consistent with my experience. Read closely the quote from Dr. Michael Eades that he includes. It goes right to the heart of what you are asking.

Could the answer be buried in this article? Dr. Eades just posted this.
