Cholesterol and carbs from taro and sweet potato

It is my understanding that cholesterol is only harmful if you have oxidised LDL type and that this is a problem for westerners because of high intake of refined sugars, refined carbs and omega 6. My question is will eating safe starches from taro and sweet potato or bananas even cause similar effects?
