Been eating chicken most of the time, what should I be doing?

I have quite a bit of weight to loose, 50 pounds or so. My BMI right now is about 33%. I have been doing 2 eggs, 1 egg white with veggies for breakfast. Lunch is chicken, 6 oz, all natural grass fed chicken sliced very think and sauteed with 2-3 veggies. Snack is apple or celery with almond butter. Dinner is same as lunch, or sometimes salmon. I am not really a red meat person, but after a good week on this diet I have lost nothing. So hack my diet. Oh and in my coffee I do heavy cream or paleo cream. I also saute with coconut oil. What am I doing wrong? I work out 5-6 days a week, 2 with a trainer and 3-4 heavy cardio. I am not hungry so I think I am getting enough food and fat.

Thanks!

U should eat carbs but try to do all of them on one day say every 2 weeks or month. This is called carb re-feeding and it helped me drop from 11% body fat % to 9.5%. Otherwise keep them very low almost Atkins low unless from non starchy vegs like lettuce and broccoli.

Another option that works well is intermittent fasting. If you eat a high fat and high protein diet that is paleo, you should have no problem eating in say a 4 hour window every day. This will help you loose weight even with the same caloric intake.

I am not really fretting, Matt, I just thought it would drop a little faster. Even a pound would have been nice. Desomond, apparently I was very wrong with that comment. I assumed free range chickens would mean they were eating grass since they are not in a cage.

Sorry, Slimlcy I must have mistunderstood my trainer. I guess my point is that she is saying you can't loose weight and add muscle without carbs.

the only nuts I eat are almond butter and celery or an apple. The only carbs I am getting right now are from occasional fruit, not even every day, and veggies. I am not doing sweet potato, dairy or anything extra.

Meagan, don't get discouraged. If you don't think you're getting enough calories, log onto fitday or myfitnesspal and log for a week or two to get an idea of your calories and macros. I'd do that for a week before you start tweaking things.

She obviously meant pastured. I'm sure you knew all the terminology when you first started out...how nice for you.

There are multiple reasons why you might not be loosing weight:

First theory: Too much food. Even if you start eating paleo it is not necessarily a recipe for loosing weight, you can effectively loose, gain, or control weight on a paleo diet.

I've found the best way to loose weight is to do a low carb/paleo hybrid diet. So I try to consume only about 40g a day of net carbohydrates. This is roughly 160 calories, my total allotment for fat and protein is then about 1340 which leaves me in a 500 calorie deficit.

Add resistance training/weightlifting if you're not already and take out some of the cardio. Having more muscle mass burns calories even after work outs, also just having more muscle you'll burn more calories just sitting around.

Another theory is that you have been loosing fat, but if you'r working out that heavily you might be replacing the fat with muscle thus confusing your scale, try taking tape measurements instead and to see if you have any result.

Third theory: If you were already eating a near paleo diet before, (less or no grains). you might not get the magical immediate weight loss effect. Most people who get the 7lb first week drop is because they're loosing pretty much just water weight because they're no longer eating sugar.

Fourth theory: read labels. When I was first starting out and I had similar problems until I realised how much of the packaged foods and seasonings I was using had so much hidden sugar in them not to mention soy and other chemical crap. Once I cut that stuff out the weight started coming off.

Try fasting for a day and then building your diet based around protein. depends on your veggies and nuts. Keep up with the lifting and pay attention to the shape of your body not the scale number. I wish scales would just tell you how much fat to muscle you have on you to avoid the number issue...

Cut the nuts and carbs and increase the meat and lettuce. I find it's not calories or even if a food is paleo is most important for my weight gain or body composition as carbs and sugar vs. protein.

I was eating clean before, so now I am only really cutting out all sugar, grains and the majority of my fruit. I just talked to my trainer and she thinks I am not getting enough carbs and my body is burning the protein for fuel. I don't do anything prepackaged except coconut oil and it is organic, and coconut milk and it is 100% coconut. I do use seasonings but none of them have sugar or soy. I honestly think I am not eating enough, and not getting enough carbs. I burned 500 calories at the gym today so when I think about what my day will look like in terms of food, I don't think I am eating enough.
