It seems like we are going to be struck by radiation any time now. Any idea on how to prevent damage to our internal systems. Could we do anything, dietary, to prevent radiation damage?

Nope happened to be in fortuna so no sirens! Very cool to hear other humco people are here, seems like so many up here think being veggie/vegan is the only way to be healthy & "eco-groovy" lol. It's a little frustrating sometimes

I have my KI already and I have informed my patients to get three month supplies. The News in the USA is not staying up with the events in Japan. There is now 8 reactors failed and the closest one is now 75 miles from Tokyo. There is now an erupting volcano off shore as well. If one reactor melts and hits ground water its game set and match for Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Paul Gunter a nuclear scientist just announced that the US is setting up early detection sites in Aleutian Islands and over California and Wash and Oregon. Not good at all.

Here's the CDC radiation emergency/preparedness link. It specifically addresses the situation in Japan and airborne radiation.

The Washington State Department of Health radiation preparedness website has links to all 50 states' radiation preparedness websites.

Do not start taking potassium iodide or iodine until the public health agencies recommend that you do so. You can poison yourself. However, you may want to assure that your emergency kit is stocked, and that you have a means to acquire a reliable and safe source of iodine.

As a precaution I ordered some Iodine in case the nuclear situation in Japan gets worse. The FDA website provides an FAQ and links to approved products http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/EmergencyPreparedness/BioterrorismandDrugPreparedness/ucm072265.htm#What%20potassium . I ordered Iosat it was only $10 a box and stays good for 7 years. CVS pharmacy also carries it. Not a bad idea to keep on hand in the emergency kit if you happen to live near a nuclear power plant like we do up here in Eureka, California (which also happens to be located on earthquake fault lines and in a tsunami zone!)
