Constant diarrhea whilst eating paleo, eases up when I eat bad carbs?

I really believe in the Paleo way of eating, and have followed it for the last few months. The only problem I have had, is my bowel movements have been very loose and frequent and I often have a rumbling, unsettled stomach throughout the day. I upped my fibre intake and have tried just about everything but it never lets up.

I never had this issue pre paleo, and my diet by all accounts was awful. The reason Im baffled is on my waker days where I cave and eat something bad, my bowel movements become 'normal' and solid. For example last night I had a few drinks after work and drunknely ate pizza and fries, which I would never normally, and this today resulted in what I would consider a pretty normal stool.

The last seven days before this, it was literally getting to the point about fifteen minutes after eating Id be running to the toilet.

Here is a typical menu for me-

Breakfast - poached eggs with salmon or a vegetable juice, single piece of fruit Lunch - grilled chicken with plenty of green veggies Dinner - soup/stew/beef with dark green veggies. meat cooked with either olive or coconut oil.

Snacks include lots of raw veggies, occasional 90% dark chocolate.

I feel like I must be doing something wrong for me to always have loose stools but I cannot figure out what - or why this immediately goes back to normal once I eat processed, carb heav crap.

Also maybe ease back on the insoluble fiber and/or fat and see if that helps.

Thanks, I have been experimenting with all kinds of soluble fiber, including most things you have mentioned. I have bananas frequently, in addition to squash and parsnips and turnips in my stews. I also make sweet potato chips every now and then. Will look into what else I can incorporate, Im determined to get this sorted!

**This** is the correct answer. All fiber is not equal.

That pizza dough and those fries are giving you SOLUBLE fiber (vs the insoluble fibre in green veg), which helps give your stools that nice loggy consistency :) Instead of going for fries, eat Paleo-friendly sources of soluble fiber like bananas, plantains, yams, squash, parnsip, turnip, carrot, rutabaga, yucca etc. If that still doesn't help, then try a little white rice every day to help firm things up.

I have had many of the same issues you have described! Eggs are bad for me too.. I get very bloated and things just don't work...but i love eggs! Hemp and flax help me alot.... they are my new favorites!

i also have loose stools/diarrhea all the time. it hasn't improved since i started paleo. the one thing that is helping it firm up is homemade yogurt. i ferment it for 24 hours and it is so good to my belly.

also, eggs give me more diarrhea and gas than any other food. i just had to stop eating them even though i love them.

probably because refined carbs are low in fiber and are binding (hency why whey you have a diarrheal disease they tell you to follow a BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) diet), whereas your diet is very high fiber, which holds onto water in the gut. Or, like Renee said, try getting more paleo-friendly sources of soluble fiber in your diet.
