How is your mouth since going Paleo?

I've been following a Primal diet for a year now, lots of fresh meat, veggies and dairy, some whole fruit and occasional pieces of chocolate. Over the past couple of months I've noticed that my mouth, teeth and gums feel squeaky clean -- almost too clean. I'm not complaining as I don't see this as a problem, just curious how others have responded "orally" on their Paleo journey.

Oh no! I feel some experimentation coming on... and some "what the hell are you doing now?" comments from my wife!

Interesting how what we perceive as normal often turns out not to be true once we've experienced a different way of eating. I too recognize the "dirty" feeling but only after now knowing what clean really feels like. Brushing also needs to be a lot less extensive and my body is able to keep the teeth clean on its own more easily -- I suspect there must be some complex chemical and biological processes at work to keep the teeth and gums healthy that SAD readily negates.

Mine is much cleaner as well, at least hygiene-wise. I still cuss like a sailor. =)

Instead of commercial toothpastes, I now make my own, which may account for some of it. I made the food and toothpaste switch at the same time, so I can't attribute the better health to one or the other specifically.

We didn't always have crest and strident throughout history :). I have also noticed that my dental health feels much cleaner (no hot/cold sensations, or tooth pain). Contrast that when I used to eat the SAD and my teeth felt "dirty". I'm not sure how far back in history that humans began to manually clean their teeth. My opinion is that it would have to be a fairly modern trend.

I used to get a few canker sores per year. I haven't had one in about two years. The change in diet is the only factor I can use to account for this.

I used to get lots of cavities. Lots. Like, 14 at my last pre-paleo checkup, despite eating a fairly "healthy" version of the standard diet. Have not had one cavity since going paleo. I don't think that is a coincidence.

My tongue isn't all inflamed and white like it usually would be. Have you tripped into finding the Paleo toothpaste yet? I don't want to get you started~
