Dark circles and thinning skin

Ever since I switched to a grain-free paleo diet 6 months ago I've had paler skin with dark circles around my eyes. Lately I've noticed the skin on my forehead must be thinning because there's a small vein in the center of my forehead that is not protruding.

Any idea what this could be? Not getting enough calories? Too much cortisol in the body? Have I introduced a food allergy? Low metabolic rate?

Allright here we go, Processed foods contain many carbs & salt. Check your salt, it looks so unimportant yet is highly needed in your body. I had some problems till a few days ago, when I decided to up my salt intake. I think I solved it but it needs a week more or so. When a person is active in sports, the body loses a LOT of salt. Replace it properly, use it vigorously.

As for carbs, I don't know, but maybe your carb intake is too low. Try to maintain around one third of everything.

How are you feeling otherwise? Healthy? Fatigued? What are you eating?

Could be your thyroid. If you were eating low carb paleo, your thyroid might not be happy. I have Hashimoto's (mostly low thyroid) and have found that I do better if I make sure I'm eating starchy foods and fruit semi-regularly (berries, pears, apples, sweet potatoes, plaintains). If it is your thyroid, it might just be happy that you started giving it carbs again after being on paleo, which would explain why you felt better on your old diet. Just a thought.

As far as I could tell I was getting enough calories so I'm not sure that was the problem. I went back to a regular western diet, avoiding processed foods, and within a week I seem to be back to normal. Paleo obviously works for some but didn't seem to work for me...

Figure out how many calories you need. Don't deprive your body of it's fuel for basic functioning, which is much more important than the foods you eat. If that's the case off course. ;)
