Dairy and diarhea

Hi, I have been on the paleo diet for close to four months now and have been feeling great. Every now and then I cheat ie had chocolate cake at a birthday, sampled some ice cream I made for the kids etc. A couple of weeks ago I was worrying about my calcium intake so I bought some yogurt and had some, the next day I had the runs. Decided I had some kind of intolerance to it so I didn't eat it again but had a bit of milk pudding two days ago and had the same reaction. Anyone have a similar reaction? I guess cheese is out now too.

I went on the diet to get healthy and lose a bit of weight but now that I am having these reactions, without talking to a doc, I'm thinking I have dairy issues.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Yes, I did eat dairy, a lot. Lots of cheese, milk in my cereal, yogurt and granola etc. I have been reading other dairy related posts and found interesting and relevant info there. I kind of treat paleo like a science experiment. :D

No, I did not get the runs but was the reverse, constipated. Weird eh?

Perhaps it was the bacteria in the yogurt that somewhat shocked your digestive system?

In any case, if you didn't have diarrhea from dairy before, it's unlikely (though not impossible) that it's all of a sudden causing it. Perhaps there were other ingredients in the pudding that caused the reaction.

Keep experimenting and see. Try some very hard, aged cheeses first. There's very little lactose in those and see how you feel.

I had chronic dairrhea before i cut dairy...For years I was entirely dairy free, now i have to only take it in moderation or have goat or sheep dairy so I get my calcium...but if i eat too much or I have it with the wrong foods (grains, legumes, on an empty stomach) my guts will get angry

Why would you have suddenly developed lactose intolerance due to healthy eating? I am certain you ate dairy prior to doing the paleo thing and I have to assume you did not get 'the runs' then.
