Cravings for dairy?

Hi there,

since I've started paleo I'm always craving dairy products, especially yoghurt and drinks (not milk itself). Any idea why this happens? I have IBS and sometimes after drinking pure milk I don't feel very well (no intolerance though). Any ideas?

Agreed. When I had dairy cravings in the beginning of my Paleo diet, I NEEDED it. It was not that I needed more fat, I literally needed more calcium. My teeth were transparent and sensitive, and that was their way to ask for more calcium. I listened to them, and I ate FERMENTED dairy (yogurt, cheese, kefir). No problems at all with lactose or casein (since they were fermented, and I preferred goat dairy over cow).

Are you sure you're getting enough calcium? That would have been my first guess.

yes, you need more fat in your diet. dairy in all its forms is a pretty good source of fat (except low fat yoghurts) and so you may need to consume more. Try it, it won't kill you.

I had the EXACT SAME THING when i first went paleo. Probably mean's you're not getting enough calcium.

i get dairy cravings, too, so i just eat cheese now.

my raw milk cravings exceed that of the past cravings i used to have for SAD foods.
