Crossfit and Divorce...

Answered on August 19, 2014

Here is the deal, my husband wants to get "separated". So, now I am moving to south Florida, 600 miles from where I am now. There is no way I can afford to go to a box while all this crap is going on. As far as my diet I'm going to try my best to keep with the 80/20 rule, mind you I'm moving in with my family who are sugar and bread addicts. Any suggestions or ideas on how to maintain/keep up with the WOD's.

He was caught with the supply sergeant. And instead of us getting in to see a therapist he rather disrupt everyones life and get "separated".

No, he was caught with the supply sergeant. I tried to be a good wife and forgive him and move on and for us to seek help. He wants no part of that so I'm done.

Seriously, it was a good day for me not to have beer for breakfast to ease the hangover from the night before, and that was on work days. :(

I couldn't help but to notice your other question about converting the family...his sudden desire to separate isn't related to that I hope!

I wod completely at home... never been to a box... it's not hard. In fact I did FGB and got a 200+ score and I've only been woding since 2/2011 Just be creative

1) download the comprehensive body weight list.... google it with the words crossfit.

2) box jumps can be made of anything that can support your weight.... I use a camping cooler

3) buy one kids beach ball, deflate, fill with sand + duct-tape .....wallball!

4) pullups can be done on any kids jungle gym.... I use the one at a church I don't even go to. Walk over,do pullups with dips, burpees, pistols and jumps...walk back home

5) buy cheap stuff on Craigslist. especially barbells and dumbells. I bought a pair of used adjustable db's years ago. They are great because I can use one= kettlebell. Use two lined up can equal barbell exercises.

6) gas jugs full of water 7) shipping tube full of a filler= foam roller

I pick up wods as I go and I save them to word documents so I can go back and find them any time.

1) mainsite

2) gymanstic wod

3) friend a whole bunch of affiliates on facebook. Most post their wods after the fact but i collect up and sav e the ones that works with my equipment

alternatively: talk to your local box. they sometimes will work out reduced rates in return for you cleaning, or doing the books, or working their outreach programs. I saw box three hours away up and offered anyone free unlimited membership for scrubbing the toilets. If I had lived in Spokane I would of taken them up on it

There is also a lot to be done at playgrounds. Bars for pull-ups, benches for box jumps, grass for sprints. Just keep moving!

My wife of 14 years and I separated in July 2009, and the divorce was final in March 2010. Even if it's amicable, which mine fortunately was, it's a cataclysm for your psyche and finances. There's really no way to make it not suck.

I commend you for staying committed to your health and fitness through the process ... I went completely wackadoodle, didn't work out or eat properly, started smoking and partying again, and am extremely lucky that my idiotic post-divorce behavior didn't have worse consequences. It took me quite a while to get my act back together.

This is obviously just my opinion, and I don't know your capacity, but you might go with something a bit less intense than CF WODs. Your stress levels are likely to be through the roof without the added strain of regular metcons. Maybe you could do a productive but relatively low-key bodyweight routine like Scrapper's or some of Ross Enamait's stuff - all you'd really need is a place to do pullups.

Well, that effing sucks - I'm sorry. Stay busy and raise that chin, you'll get through this. Keep to your lifestyle and see if there are any Paleo folk out there where you are and get some friends for support. You will also have nice weather so lots of Vitamin D to help keep you upright as well as opportunities to find inexpensive ways to be active outside.

Here is a comprehensive list of travel WOD's, I think it was the one floating around PH for a while, and all you'll need is a jump rope. And here is another as well.

You know what needs to be done to feel good so stay strong. Hugs!

Divorce does suck. I've been through it. I think you'll find if you stick to paleo and as much crossfit as possible, the preservation of that structure will be solace. Buy a kettlebell and that will help with what you can do as well.

Here is an extensive list of WODs that require no equiptment:

I use it a lot when I can't make it to a class and want to do my own workouts. Good luck!

Sorry about your divorce. Try long walks. Make your own Bulgarian bag-get your occupational therapy and (almost) free workout equipment all at once! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1pLF6dMBkk

Check out anywherefit (http://crossfitmobile.blogspot.com/) for WODs. It is the site of Blair Morrison (Games competitor). It should be able to keep you busy for quite some time ;)
