Pony girl needs help

Been on paleo for almost three weeks...carb withdrawal was awful but over. Sleeping well for the first time in decades and energy is up. Horrible cravings for chips and dip and fritos and bean dip. What is up with that and help!!

Thanks! Unfortunately the only vegetable I hate is yams! I will try eating more protein.

Those foods are loaded with all sorts of interesting man made addictive flavor components such as MSG. You're just getting rid of your addiction, that's all. Stay away from them.

Try some bacon, home made mayonnaise (make it with EVOO or EVCO and pastured eggs) instead.

Sounds like you're doing a version of low-carb paleo. You didn't state what you're eating and how much, so it will be difficult to offer much in the way of detailed suggestions. More is better.

Some possible reasons:

  1. There's an amino acid or other nutrient you're missing that you used to get (or could get) from the foods you're craving. This is quite likely.
  2. You may want to increase your carbs a little for a week or so--maybe a couple of ounces of baked yam (abt 12g carbs) when they cravings come up, and see if that helps.

  3. You might not be eating enough food, especially protein.
