Is rice oil okay to cook with?

My family is going out to eat at a Japanese restaurant tonight and I called ahead asking what oil they cook with and the guy answered "rice oil." I've actually never heard of rice oil till now so I Googled around and found some info about rice bran oil but just wondering if anyone on here has an opinion on whether rice oil is okay or maybe even better than vegetable oil. The great Wikipedia states that it has a high smoke point, rich in vitamin E and antioxidants with "47% of its fats monounsaturated, 33% polyunsaturated, and 20% saturated." This actually seems like a pretty good oil. So, Paleo or not Paleo?

Well I don't really have a choice tonight since we're going out to eat for my mom's birthday... it's okay, I'm also eating sashimi so my o6/o3 ratio should be fine.

Not paleo. At home cook with coconut oil, butter, lard, tallow. When eating out, finding out what they cook with is great. I personally just don't worry about food quality when eating out at a restaurant that I did not specifically choose to eat at.

Rice bran oil is usually chemically extracted. Even if it is cold pressed, rice bran oil is high in omega-6 fatty acids so should be avoided. It is not a traditional oil.

Too much PUFA (polyunsaturated) which become unstable (rancid, oxidize) with light and heat.

Saturated fats and monounsaturated fats are ideal for cooking because they are stable at high temperature and light - the trick is that they are solid at room temperature.

1) coconut oil - saturated fat

2) beef tallow, pork lard, lamb lard, goose fat - animal meat fats - mixture of mostly saturated and monounsaturated fats

3) butter, ghee - saturated dairy fats
