Constipation, Bloating and orangey/red stools!

Hi Guys,

I have had bloating, constipation and many other issues for a while now but I have developed a new symptom recently. Orangey/red stool. Now the strange thing is it doesn't look like blood, it shouldn't be fast transit time as I typically go once every 6 days and I don't think it is a bile salt deficiency as I have taken super enzymes, etc before and they didn't help.

I'm 21, male and eat strict epi-paleo... help please!

Thanks, Sean.

EDIT: This is a recent occourance and I haven't added any new foods. I usually eat salmon, mixed veg(carrot, swede, turnip, onion), olive oil, goose fat, corned beef, other meats.

I have been eating the same meal of veg(inc/carrots) and salmon for months now. I am sure it is not this. Also the stool seems a lot more pale. Fibre does nothing. Currently seeing a gastroenterologist who gave me a prokinetic which does nothing.

I agree on the carrots. It's also possible it is dye from the salmon. They add food color to farmed salmon to make it look like wild sometimes.

If you're eating sweet potatoes that may be a culprit of the orange poop.

@desperate S - I am the same, but will go for tests for SIBO with a new doc in the new year. Diet for SIBO/scd/lowfodmaps did little for me, but I'm hoping if I test positive I will respond to the more drastic protocol by dr. siebecker. currently just biding time and avoiding harsher long term medication that was suggested -including miralax and amitiza. slight improvement of energy with bone broths/gelatin, but not difference in gi issues.

Desperate S, read the chapter on constipation in GAPS or find it online if you don't have the book.

Pooping once every six days? See a doctor you trust. By the way, I just looked up epi-paleo. Perhaps you need some more variety in your diet? I dunno. But seriously see a doctor.

once every sixth day is pretty bad... optimal poop times are 1x/day... You should try to up your fiber intake so you go more often...

Sometimes if you eat too many carrots the pigment can be retained by your body and your stool. Try cutting them out and see how it goes.

Also have to echo that it is a good idea to see a doctor.

i recommend you see a medical doctor immediately as you are defecating at a dangerously low level, which could result in system toxicity...
