Have you had moments when you had a less-than-civilized impulse since adopting paleo?

Obviously etiquette, rules and considerate behavior have served us for the most part as a species, but we are still animals, and perhaps living paleo allows us to be more in touch with our animal nature. I ask this question because I recently had a moment in which my survival-of-the-fittest competitiveness was so overwhelming that I was embarrassingly rude to an innocent person whom I believed at the time was in competition with me for a scarce resource essential to my survival (or at least my immediate well-being). It all happened in a moment, and when it was over I was mortified (as I am usually friendly and nice), but in that moment, my whole being was intent on the goal and there was no way I was going to let anyone else scoop it before me.

This led me to wonder if anyone else feels like their (for lack of a better word) caveperson self has overtaken them more frequently since paleo. I guess other words might just be childish self, or to Freud, the id. MAybe a nutritionist would just say more meat and no soy means more T, hence more aggressiveness.

Has anyone had a similar moment?

This is a great answer and it points to the fact that there may be a fine line between assertiveness and aggressiveness.

Agreed, I've been a lot more level and overall far more upbeat on Paleo. Combination of self-confidence and lack of depression have helped a LOT!

I was described as highly competitive before going primal...maybe a certain personality type is drawn to this lifestyle in the first place barring any health reasons that might have sent them there. I have yet to punch anyone outside of my Model Mugging class though.

of them go, but then basically body blocked the last ( a man whom I did not realize at the time was the father of the three I let go) to ensure that my own family would not be left in the cold. He cursed at me, but I didn't care...I had this total intensity that we would get into that warm van and to our car like our lives depended on it. Of course, he and his family were just as cold and tired as we were, but in that moment, I just didn't care which is frightening.

It is almost too stupid to tell...My family and me had just endured a post-Xmas trip back across the country (through Chicago with horrible delays there). We were flying from warm CA to freezing cold MA and after waiting forever for the luggage, standing in the cold waiting for the van to take us to where our car was parked to then deal with unearthing the car from the snow and driving at least an hour home, the van pulls up almost full of other passengers. I had summoned it to the curb, and then realized that there were four other people besides my family trying to get on it. I let three..

I'm a carnivore!! Don't stand in the way of my meat!! RAOR!! Nom Nom Nom!! Utensils, plates, napkins are for losers.

Also, I'm a biologist and currently going back to school for nursing. I'm in my second round of A&P (stupid credits didn't transfer). I always want to eat the cat we dissect. It looks like chicken! Mind you the smell is enough to put me off. However, I just look at it and go... wow... all that wasted meat. I bought up to my professor about just getting frozen cats, that way when we're done... I got some strange looks and I'm pretty sure some of my classmates are afraid of me now.

Just the opposite, actually. When I ate SAD I was considered an emotional hothead. When by blood sugar would drop, look out until I ate. My wife called the time I got home from work the danger hour.

On PHD I'm emotionally stable and I havent had a stupid emotionally based fight with anyone since even right before dinner!

Yes, I have felt this. I have had someone (alright, sometimes it's less a person and more an earwig) stand between me and my objective, and I'm like, "SCRATCH SMASH!"

I don't think I'm any less civilized since going paleo, but I definitely feel a stronger sense of self confidence and assertiveness. I believe my stronger, well nourished body has also resulted in better emotional and mental stability.

I was described as aggressive before I went Primal. Not in the same way you've described - I have been dying to take Krav Maga for a few years now, I punched the last dude I dated in the face, I'm snarky, and those are just the PG-rated examples. Perhaps that made it easier for me to go Primal/Paleo in the first place. There could definitely be a correlation between aggressive behavior overall and what could be termed as aggressive eating habits or urges.
