Is it the caffeine or specifically coffee?

I have read in multiple sources that drinking coffee contributes to inflammation as well as leaches minerals from the body. Does anyone around here know if this is in reference to coffee specifically or is it because of the caffeine? I am asking because I love to drink green tea and some of my favorite varieties have high caffeine levels.

There are so many studies showing health benefits to both coffee and caffeine and even a few showing negative effects. But from what I've read, they are mostly good.

I don't buy coffee causing inflammation, it's a very good source of antioxidants, As far as coffee's stimulant effects, this comes both from the caffeine and some other component of coffee that raises adrenalin production (in addition to the caffeine).

I wouldn't worry about green tea. The Japanese drink a ton of it.

Does even 1-2 cups of coffee tax the adrenals? I'm still trying to understand how "adrenals" work. I have hypothyroidism & hypoglycemia and I know my docs has talked about adrenals before but I don't really understand how they play a role.

I love coffee, but have recently switched over to alternating my day's with either herbal tea or decaf coffee (which still has some caffeine). My nutritionist does not recommend caffeine, as it taxes the adrenals. It's like the "fight or flight" event that happens when you are scared or threatened - that is what your adrenals do when you consume caffeine. After a while, they start to wear out.

It took about 5 days to wean myself off the caffeine. I don't miss it. I did miss the taste of coffee though, so I'm only doing decaf when I drink it.
