Delicious alternatives to coffee?

Answered on August 19, 2014

Dear PHers

After this post.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/123309/what-harmful-foods-drinks-are-you-still-refusing-to-give-up#axzz1xfPuUaRn

AND clear evidence that coffee messes me up, I have decided that I AM giving up coffee for good.

Does anyone have any suggestions for delicious tea?

I drink loads of herbal tea everyday but I'm thinking of something really rich and tasty that will help me start my day. I have tried bulletproof tea but I find that the butter drowns the flavour and you can't actually taste the tea.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

99% of coffee has MOLD in it which messes you up. Drink bulletproof coffee, I HATE coffee, but this isn't normal coffee. You can also get it in decaf form if you need to protect your adrenals. You're welcome in advance. Try it once and you'll never, ever, ever want to drink crappy other coffee ever again. :)

I'm certain you can find rose hip tea on eBay or somewhere else. Especially being that you're so close to Europe. Very popular in the Czech Republic - sipekova caj is what it's called in Czech.

That's great! I think you will enjoy it. Use caution - a little goes a long way. I use 3 tsp (1 tbs) of roasted chicory to one standard size french press coffee maker. Let me know how you like it! :)

Not sure how "Paleo" carob is, but here is a barley-free version of Teeccino. It is delicious and as close to coffee as possible. Also gluten-free. Only available online for now. Don't buy the one with barley. http://teeccino.com/product/950/Dandelion-French-Roast-Herbal-Coffee.html

Try drinking a nice spicy chai tea blend. It should hold up better to the butter or IMO goes very well with coconut milk.

mix 50% each roasted dandelion / roasted chicory - tastes just like coffee (swear) - but no caffeine. We make it up for customers all the time, lots of people come back for more, and send there friends for it too. We sell the two herbs separately on our website, or most herb shops sell them too. Just don't get the commercially packed dandelion coffee replacement - tastes like cereal - yukky

I can't do caffeine at all either. It does very strange things to my body - darn adrenals! Anyway, I know this isn't "tea" but it technically could be. I bought some organic roasted chicory on amazon.com a few months ago and I've fallen in love with it. It's not exactly like coffee, but it's darn close and gives me that "comfort food" feeling that coffee used to bring me. Mind you, I can't do dairy either so I use almond or coconut milk to make it creamy (never liked sugar in my coffee, thankfully). It's delicious and a great alternative to coffee and something different than herbal teas.

Japanese twig tea (Kukicha). You can find it at health food stores. Has a sharp, woodsy taste. I believe it a little caffeine, but not much.

In the winter I was drinking hot water with a spoon of cocoa powder (fair trade, unsweetened) and a little coconut oil.

It's good that you quit coffee. I've written some inspiration about that here.

Personally I prefer to drink Rooibos tea and a small amount of green tea. Sometimes mixed together.

Coffee sucks. Spread the word people!!

Yerba Mate. I too have issues with coffee. I use this on days I want a boost but don't want coffee. Long lasting, smooth energy. Tastes great. Mixes well with a variety of ingredients.

Cocoa has caffeine in it, so you may need to investigate in Caco chips are caffeine free or an another alternative
