I'm an athlete and I buy coconut water by the case load as electrolyte replacement.

Where do you get these? And are you just cracking them open and just eating the meat?

No, but the oil content will not be as high as in mature coconuts. In tropical countries which use a lot of coconut, the young green coconuts are typically used as an enjoyable drink and the coconuts are then discarded even tho the jelly-like flesh is tasty and edible. As the coconut matures it becomes more fibrous and the fat component increases so it is then more suitable for cooking purposes. The water of the mature coconut is less tasty but still good to drink.

NO of course not! The water is filled with electrolytes and VERY good for hydration! The meat is full of healthy MCT and saturated fat to provide you with energy. The whole coconut ( Meaning the meat and the water ) has a nice variety of minerals, and as I said before, a great source of sodium and potassium. If I could I would make my diet very high in coconut.

There is a Vegan market near me that sells them. Tough to find, but they are there. I always question how fresh they are though. In Ohio, I can't imagine I'm getting them that fresh.

When you've had them right off the tree in the Caribbean, it's tough to beat...
