What's the deal with Coconut Fat/Butter?

So I live in Finland, and I found this stuff that says "Kookosrasvaa", which roughly translated is "Coconut Fat."

It was in the butter aisle. It says that it is 100% Coconut, and I figured that it couldn't hurt to buy it, so I did. When I inspected it when I got home I was shocked to find that it has almost a plasticky taste, and is super hard.

I have yet to use it, and I wanted to run it through here first. There are no other ingredients than "coconut".

So how do I use it? Should I use it?

I don't know how you use butter, but I wouldn't spread it on top of anything. Try cooking an egg in some of it and see how it tastes.

So just use it like Coconut Oil? Or like Butter? Or how? Its in a foil butter wrapper, and was in the refrigerated aisle in the supermarket, so I have been keeping it in my fridge at home as well. But it IS super hard.

It sounds like refined coconut oil. The refined kind has no taste, but to me seems like chewing on polypropylene or beeswax. If it is super hard, you probably don't heat your home very high. This stuff is great for cooking, but not so much for eating right out of the package.

Set the jar in warm water to help it liquify. I don't care for the taste, lack of taste, so when I cook with it I add butter at about a 50/50 ratio.
