What happened? Why can't I get my amazing energy back?

I decided to start eating coconut oil about a year ago. I ate a solid 3-6 tablespoons daily for 5 days with no effect. On the sixth day it hit me like a truck...I was buzzing with crazy energy for about 4 weeks. After that the energy slowly waned and a year later I feel like I'm back on the SAD with no major diet changes.

I even had some wheat & grains while on the coconut oil buzz..(a couple nights i ate big bowls of oatmeal and cheerios just hoping to fall asleep.)

I got the 'crazy' energy back a few days ago but only for one day. It's taunting me. I've had this feeling maybe 5 or 6 times in the past ~10 months but most of the time I feel very lethargic...

anybody have any ideas?

-Thanks!

Who told you 3 bowls of oatmeal is enough to kick you out of ketosis? And if you're working out along with that, it's even more likely you hit ketosis. The fact that you experienced crazy energy after the 6th day and after eating coconut (coconuts contain MCTs which produce ketones upon breakdown) proves to me your energy boost is due to ketosis.

yeah i definitely wasn't in ketosis when i had a buzz...One night I ate 3 bowls of oatmeal at 3am (attempting to go to sleep) woke up at 7 and hit the gym. Had the best workout of my life. (I was new to paleo and still had grains and wheat around the apartment)

Yup. Or raise your carb intake and get out of ketosis. Some people find they do better on a higher-carb diet, but the difference between ketosis and higher-carb for me is night and day, so I stay in ketosis.

Because ketosis is not a natural or optimal state. That's why.

You're dipping in and out of ketosis.

Intermittent fasting combined with restricting protein to ~1g per kg of bodyweight and zero carbs has given me unbelievable energy in the past few days. Also bone broth, it is an absolute superfood.

This is the best way to get into proper ketosis fast
