what do you think of coconut bowls?

I know the paleo community is cuckoo for coconuts :) so you may love this. I found coconut bowls sold online, made from coconut shells, and this guide shows you how to make your own.

My question is, does this decay? It looks pretty hardy. Or is it basically just the same as wood? Maybe stuff like this only decays if exposed to soil organisms, which is not a concern in the home. I was concerned that it would somehow become susceptible to mold...I don't know much about it.

I would oil it, buff it and treat it like a wooden salad bowl.

That looks super neat! :D

My guess would be that moisture would be the enemy of this bowl, so after it's been scraped out, it'd probably need cured. I'd venture that an hour or so on VERY low heat in the oven would help dry out the extra liquid in it, and even then, it would have to be a 'dry food only' bowl, unless one decided to shellack it.

Either way, that looks really cool! I'll have to try it. Thanks for the link.
