I thought it took longer than 1 hour to make the oil. Is that 1-hour number just the start of the process? And how exactly does the vendor ensure that it's fair-trade oil? The vendor seems like it has good intentions, but as the Russians say, "Trust, but verify."
Anyway, the vendor's description of the production process seems straightfoward. The problem is that the oil is packaged in plastic containers, which is a huge mistake. Lipids and plastic are both electrically polar, which means they can exchange molecules easily at points of contact. Oils should always be packaged in glass, which is electrically neutral.
Update 01/05/13: I received an email from Kokonut Pacific Pty Ltd. today. The representative stated "All the coconut oil that we sell in retail packaging is in plastic ??? PET food grade, and BPA-free. The bulk oil in 200L drums and in 1000L IBCs (which is how we receive it from the producers) is in plastic bladders which seal the oil safely within the large containers. This way it is prevented from leaking and is kept pure and clean from possible contamination."
This is exactly what I was concerned about. In addition, unless the company has had its packaging material tested by a company like PlastiPure, it could contain one or more estrogenically-active compounds (as detailed in this thread). How much of a harm this represents, science can't quantify completely, but the rule of thumb is the less exposure oil has to plastic, the better.

Just thought i would update, that even my own pets notice the difference. They crave this oil in particular and it doesnt upset their stomach at all unlike the Philippine coconut oils ..
Ive been using this oil for over 2 years and ive tried the others the market offer but ive yet to achieve the level of satisfaction that this product has offered me.
im surprised no one on here has had any positive experience with DME Oil, which is in its essence a very basic system at the local level.
As such i truly recommend you guys give this a shot if you see it, its available under many different brands depending on where you live. the key word is DME coconut oil, it made in the Solomon islands..
