Coconut Oil - what can I do with it?

Hi everyone :)

After reading so much about how great coconut oil is on this forum I went and bought some. It's Melrose brand Organic Coconut Oil. Virgin, cold pressed, unrefined. It smells heavenly!

So what can I do with this stuff? What do YOU use it for? I've read some people have a few spoons of it in the morning, it's been suggested as a facial cleanser / moisturizer (could someone elaborate on that? Are there any other beauty treatments I can do?), and of course in cooking (so if you have a favorite recipe, please share!).

What else can I do with this miracle oil? Post your best efforts! :)

I tried using coconut oil as a moisturizer and after about a week broke out with the worse cystic acne I've ever had, and it took 6 - 8 weeks for it to heal. How bad was your breakout?

yes sex lubricant! It's so much better for you than any of those unnatural lubricants out there. Fun to use for you and him. I just asked hubby the other day what I should do now that the simple act of smelling coconut oil turns me on and reminds me of good times in other rooms of the house ;-)

I can't tell, but I doubt that coconut oil will do anything but good things.

I use it as a make-up remover, as well as a moisturizer and lip balm.

When you say lubricant... sex lubricant? Really? It's not going to do strange things / cause trouble if it gets in my lady parts?

No more dry skin! I use it on my face as both a moisturizer and makeup remover (no matter how much coconut oil I put on my face, it's never going to turn my very light eyebrows dark enough to be seen, so I do wear makeup :-)). I also use it immediately after my shower to lubricate my legs for shaving.

Once I am done shaving and I dry my hair, I use the little bit of CO left over on my hands to run through my hair. Makes it glossy and it gets rid of fly-aways.

I use it at night in my eyes - yes, IN my eyes - to lubricate my dry eyes (this is discussed in another thread). http://paleohacks.com/questions/65615/curing-dry-eyes-with-paleo#axzz1asj8SpB3 and http://paleohacks.com/questions/16472/anyone-else-suffer-from-extremely-dry-eyes-during-sleep#axzz1asj8SpB3

I use it in my cold drinks (shake-type things) mixed with cocoa as a magic shell. If you are not accustomed to the richness of coconut oil, this can be nauseating until you get used to it.

I use it on my face, my son's diaper rash (obviously, from two different jars.. LOL!).. clears his rash up completely overnight. I also drink it in warm water and cook with it. (again, from a separate jar) I have jars all over the place!

in our house, outside of the kitchen - it's used for massages, bedroom fun enhancer, and also minor burns, cuts, and scrapes. Use it after shower on legs, stretch marks, and weight loss loose skin areas in hope that it helps - can't hurt right? :-)

side note - I use it on my legs after I get done shaving. It causes my left leg to break out - right leg smooth and clear.

I put it in my coffee or tea everyday & use it to saut?? or fry any meat or veggies. & it's the only facial moisturizer I'll ever use again. I broke out too @ first but it's just your skin purging all the bacteria that's been living in your pores. My skin is now balanced. Not too oily or dry. & I don't need makeup anymore. Just like there's a transition period when first going paleo, there's a transition period when making drastic changes in skincare.

You can eat it (it's great, but not that tasty), you can use it as a lubricant, but I would watch out with putting it on your face : I heard some horror stories of people getting tons of acne after a week of using it.

I hate it in eggs, but this week I added a tablespoon to my basmati rice Before cooking (part of the PHD safe carbs trials) and it was to die for!

I mix a tablespoon or two with just a bit of honey and eat it on an apple. If I don't have any coconut cream around for my coffee I'll put coconut oil in instead. I will say, I cannot eat spoonfuls of refined coconut oil, it makes me sick to my stomach. But with the unrefined I can go all out!

I cook with it pretty much daily, although some things, like eggs, cook better in butter. I sometimes eat a spoonful if I feel like I need more fat to stave off hunger. (Unlike some, I'm not in love with this, but I've gotten used to it enough to choke it down.) I used it as a skin moisturizer on my baby after her baths when she was an infant and have once or twice used it as a moisturizer on myself, but it's pretty greasy obviously.
