coconut oil, refrigerate or not to refrigerate

I have a jar of Jarrow Coconut Oil. Its says on label to refrigerate after opening. I need an answer whether I have to follow through with this suggestion. Are their brands that you don't have to refrigerate? Very cofusing from what I read about it. I would appreciate a personal reply.

Nope, I don't refrigerate. I've stuck it in there in the past and it gets too hard. I actually prefer my coconut oil be liquid and most of the time it is. My indoor temperature is almost always 80+F.

Refrigeration of coconut oil is completely unnecessary, unless perhaps you live in hell. It does not oxidize, and the flash point, when things go bad, is like above 400F. It is completely saturated, so it can't go bad. It is a waste of refrigerator space to put it in the refrigerator.

I have never refrigerated mine, but I have never had that brand. I have spectrum organinic and it says specifically "no refrigeration needed" right on my bottle.

I never even thought to refrigerate it!

I have Omega Nutrition Certified Organic Coconut Oil and it says to store in a cool place.

It makes no sense to refrigerate an oil that doesn't oxidize at normal, even hot ambient temperatures, Oils that need to be refrigerated are those that oxidize (go rancid).

Generally, the only time coconut oil goes bad at room temperature is when it contains moisture, either by improper manufacturing or contamination. I've been buying the centrifuged coconut oil from Wilderness Family Naturals for many years, and I've never had any go bad, even though I never refrigerate it.

I have had rancid, bitter coconut oil in the past, and I'm confused by this. I usually don't refrigerate mine, but it was last summer that I had two jars that didn't last two months in my hot, hot apartment. Perhaps those bad jars had more non-oil coconut matter in them.

For food safety's sake, no, you don't need to refrigerate it.
