So.. I want to buy a big old tub of coconut oil to save some cash... my concern is that I won't be able to consume that much... I can buy a gallon or a 2 gallon bucket... anyone ever have any issues with it going rancid?

bought a 5gal bucket from Tropical Traditions about almost 2 years ago (in Dec). Im down to about 2 gallons and its just fine. I did keep it in the chest freezer last summer, but this summer its been fine and ill probably put it on the balcony in winter when I order another.

As far as I know coconut oil is about as shelf stable as you can get. It should be good for a long time. I've been getting mine in small bottles though, and manage to gobble all of it up pretty quickly.

I agree with frankifries, no issues from TT. I split a 5gal with a co-op group and ended up with 2gal. Worth every penny we saved!!
