Another thread recently mentioned that cravings for sodas may be linked to their citric acid content as well as the sugar or sweetness. It reminded me that I was making apple pie this past weekend (GF for myself, traditional for everyone else) and without any vitamin C on hand to keep my apples from browning while working with them, I made a citric acid solution to do the job. When I got it on my hands, it made a spot of psoriasis flare up, but I have no idea if it was just acid burn on a sensitive area or there was something unique about citric acid in particular. What arcane knowledge can you share about this substance? Do you avoid it? Use it? Supplement with it? What's your n=1 experience?
