Since mid May of 2013 I've had a small cough. It's not painful, I don't hack anything up, and strangely enough when I'm very well hydrated I cough less or not at all. The doctor thought I had pertussis or the 100 day cough, and prescribed me an antibiotic (6 pills that I took over 5 days). It subsided the cough somewhat, but it still hasn't gone away. It's not allergies, because it's been on going through summer, fall, and now winter. Cigarette smoke agitates it (I don't smoke, but friends I hangout with do). I'm 19 and very athletic. I bike everywhere and it hasn't affected my physical activity at all or made my breathing harder. My favorite drink Raspberry Peace Tea contains Sucralose though and I've heard it linked to a cough before, which I started drinking it when the cough started. Any advice or possible explanations would be greatly appreciated.

@daz I don't know for sure that its the sucralose. I may have started coughing before I started drinking it, but I'm not sure. This thought just occurred to me today and I did a little research. It didn't explain what kind of cough. And yes I have noticed Ill go periods without coughing only to cough as soon as I think about it. How would I break this habit?

first the obvious one..."My favorite drink Raspberry Peace Tea contains Sucralose though and I've heard it linked to a cough before, which I started drinking it when the cough started"...it is related to the sucralose, cut it out.
second...if your throat is not sore or ticklish or you do not have excessive mucous, then it may be just a habit thing that you have acquired. possibly there was a reason for the cough initially, but that has now gone. chronic throat clearing can be a similar thing, when the triggers have long since gone, it has just become an annoying habit. do you find you cough as much when your are intensely focussed on other things...& then when you have a chance to pause, you notice that you have not coughed for a while.
