I just got my annual wellness assessment summary in the mail. I have been trying and doing pretty well to eat clean for 9 months. I am 43yo female 5'5" 135# very active. The day that this year's blood was drawn I was 1 week post op from knee surgery. I ate food high in sugar and fat an hour before the blood draw.

                    June 2011 Oct 2012

Total cholesterol 167 237
HDL 73 90
ratio of Chol to HDL 2.6
LDL 82 114
VLDL 12 33
Triglycerides 59 163

Should I be concerned at all? Thanks in advance for you help.

Thanks Amy. I finally made it in today for another blood draw. Hoping for good results. Though my mainstream doc said that with such good HDL # she was not concerned about any of the other numbers.

I'll call this morning for a retest. I'll post again if I'm still freaking out. Thanks for the help!

This, sounds like some post prandial elevations of triglycerides might be goin' down.

I suggest re-testing fasted. I think that's pretty standard protocol.

Don't forget that cholesterol is one of the body's most critical repair substances. if you were one-week post-op from surgery, I would imagine that could have had a significant effect on your blood lipid levels.

Your level of total cholesterol is completely normal. However you do need to be concerned about your triglycerides level increase from 59-163.

However, most probably the things you ate an hour before testing have something to do with it. Like what MarkES said, re-test fasted.
