My total Cholesterol terrified the lab guy.

Answered on September 12, 2014
Created December 14, 2011 at 5:47 PM

So, Blood test before a job. Results came in, and the lab guy ( massive 3XL belly btw) proceeds to ask -almost screaming in front of everybody- if my cholesterol levels were always this high man... I said total cholesterol levels are irrelevant ( he chimed NOT!) and then i walked out. So yea, Im i going to die? dont really care about this blood test BS and feel awesome btw, but what do you guys think?

edit. total cholesterol level of 4.46 g/L, ( 446 mg/dL) btw

edit2. old "electrocardiogram guy" took a peak at my lab results today and HE almost died " omg but the cholesterol numbeeerr" ( electro was perfect btw) and then immediately instructed me to cut all fat from my diet: eat a no eggs, low fat diet, with lots of healthy grains, lots of vegetables, fiber, 6 small meals a day always using the word " with moderation"... " equilibrium" i wanted to kill the guy right there, we had a mini argument, but then i realized it was pointless and i didn't want to completely Fck up my electro-BS right in progress... i hate doctors.

alt text

edit3, so i decided to follow the doc lipitor orders and this is what i had

http://img182.imagevenue.com/galshow.php?gal=gallery_1323966622737_590lo

actually, today it was " fish day" but hey, i might as well eat my fkn steak.

(350cc milk + chocolate missing in the pic, btw i do not eat the whites...)

edit4 Should i stop eating yolks? >Absolutely not! Mr Ravnskov answer. How awesome is this guy?... yhea im not going to give up my yolks!!

This says LDL but I assume it works for total cholesterol? From http://cholesterol.about.com/od/yourresults/f/cholesterolconversion.htm Converting mmol/L to mg/dL: To convert your LDL or HDL cholesterol levels from mmol/L to mg/dL, you can divide the number given in mmol/L by 0.0259. An example of this conversion would be if you had an LDL cholesterol level of 4.8 mmol/L and wish to convert it to mg/dL: 4.8 mmol/L ÷ 0.0259 = 185 mg/dL

I think we should start a website to log our bloodwork etc, and have a sort of kill-switch so that if we don't login after 6 months our profile says "FIN" and an email gets sent out asking for the reason for death. This way in 10 - 50 years we would be able to see a pattern emerge.

Who knows we may prove that cholesterol levels are irrelevant or perhaps that chocolate dipped bacon is the elixir of eternal life!

No worries. Even "bad" cholesterol is okay as long as it's not oxidized.

From the Wall Street Journal:

???The brain is largely cholesterol, much of it in the myelin sheaths that insulate nerve cells and in the synapses that transmit nerve impulses. Some doctors theorize that lowering cholesterol could slow the connections that facilitate thought and memory. Statins may also lead to the formation of abnormal proteins seen in the brains of Alzheimer???s patients.???

Just don't fry those egg yolks.

Why would you get a cholesterol test when you didn't care about the result? Just because a test is available doesn't mean you have to take it.

Unless you took the test to complain that people commented at the results, then I'm ok with that.

Not getting this straight. Your TC is 172. My opinion is that this is low. Can you clarify?

No, 172 came from the wrong scale. His TC is 446.

No, 172 came from the wrong scale. His TC is 446--I think.

It is funny that people are like "I ll believe what best suits me.. "... I know that people can exaggerate and try to scare other people which in this case I think it happened to you!

However, like someone said, we are all gonna die eventually :)
