Cholesterol keeps going way down?

I eat a diet of moderate fat/carbs/and protein. I usually strive for 40/30/30 but end up closer to 50/30/20. My fat generally comes from beef, eggs, Olive oil, and maybe a tbls of butter a day.

At my last doctors visit my total cholesterol was 160 and my hdl was 79. (6 months ago)

I got my lab results back today and my total cholesterol is 141 and hdl is 81.

Any explanation for the super low numbers? Are they worrisome low? If so, how do I get them to a healthy 180-200 level? If it matters, trigs were in the 40s both times and I eat 100-150 g of carbs per day. The last results were taken a couple months into me being paleo so I was certain they would go up... I'm pretty confused

I'm 23, 5'8 126 lbs, which is in the healthy range for my height (lower side). My body seems to keep this weight pretty effortlessly so I def don't under eat. My weight has stayed pretty stable since my last blood test but it could explain it being on the lower side.

I generally avoid the doctors office so until 6 months ago I didn't have it tested. The weird part is that I was pretty veganish before paleo. I ate chicken or fish a couple a week and vegan otherwise. Now I eat meat a couple times a day and eat around 40% fat. And my cholesterol went down? Doesn't make sense to me. My moms cholesterol is 140 but she hardly eats to stay skinny so idk if it's a fair comparison. Thanks for the comment... Hopefully it's just normal for my family!

Hah I generally just eat 1/6-1/4 lb beef with potatoes and veggies for breakfast, snack on some fruit or veggies in humus for lunch, and then either a big salad with eggs or some sort of meat (steak or tuna usually) with mashed potatoes and veggies for dinner. Pretty standard stuff!

Nobody really has any idea what's optimal, but 300+ has such a slow turnover rate that it's likely to become oxidized.

Ok thanks... I thought that was possible but I keep seeing people on here say that 200+ cholesterol is completely normal so the number jumped out as possibly an issue.

That's not worrisome at all. Sounds like you're just genetically prone to lower LDL.

Curious what's the highest it's ever been? And what about the rest of your family, do they tend towards low total cholesterol?

I have no idea what you should do, can only say I'd be moderately worried, at least, enough that I'd start doing some research. Studies tend to show that both very low and very high cholesterol are associated with bad outcomes, especially in old age. But if it runs in your family and everybody is healthy & happy, maybe it's nothing! And your HDL looks good.

Two things not mentioned that might help help explain it: your age and weight. My cholesterol went up as I got heavier and older. I'm not suggesting that it's worth bloating up to raise your cholesterol, but being underweight or undereating could be a causes for it being low.
