Got blood taken today for a standard check up. Eat pretty strict paleo, LDL was high Doc said. I know high cholesterol isnt necessarily bad according to many people in the paleosphere. Can anyone tell me more about these results?

How about some stats?

I'm 6' 190, 60 ...these results are very similar to mine. From summer 2012 to Jan 2013 I dropped 30 lbs, 3" off my waist & 10 points lower on both BO numbers. My internist has been very happy with my results.

She said...keep doing what you're doing, see you in a year.

You could be correct about insurance, it would depend on the OP's plan. But VAP only estimates ApoB by correlating with other measurements. Which is fine if there is no discordance.

NMR is typically more expensive, and usually is not covered by insurance. Both directly measure LDL-P, but neither is particularly accurate.

According to Peter Attia at Eating Academy, VAP only estimates ApoB. He feels that NMR, which measures LDL-P directly, is the better choice.

it means that your doctor is using the Friedwald Formula to estimate your LDL. Before you take any specific action, I would advise you to seek out a VAP test to directly measure your LDL.
