After 2 years of paleo, here are my cholesterol results...

Here is an image of my results, or just look below:

Total Cholesterol 240

LCL 152

HDL 80

Triglycerides 40

It's 112 on the Iranian formula, but I'm not really sure of the significance of that.

Should I be concerned about the LDL? I've been eating paleo + dairy for about 2 years. I keep it low-ish carb, but still eat potatoes, white rice and fruit.

Your welcome mike, also your trig to hdl ratio is only .5 which is really good. That's a far better predictor of heart disease than anything else. A ratio of 2 is considered good and upwards of 5 is problematic. In this study those with the highest ratio had sixteen times the risk of developing heart disease. http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/96/8/2520.full

Thanks. I'm encouraged to see that my vLDL is very low -- it's 8. So that's a good thing, I think...

240 TC is more or less in line with what traditional cultures have for TC levels, high by modern medicine standards, but not so high that risk is increase. Trig/HDL is awesome, a ratio that is protective against CVD. Assuming no other nagging health issues, why bother testing with numbers like those?

Also consider a NMR Test to see what the LDL-P and small LDL-P counts are

The LDL as bad cholesterol and HDL as good cholesterol is outdated. There's a type of HDL that turns out isn't so great, and certain types of LDL that are okay.

You'd need a VAP test and a Lp(a) test to really get anything conclusive.

I would highly recommend "The Great Cholesterol Myth: Why lowering your cholesterol wont prevent heart disease." It's well researched, up to date, and explains in great detail what you need to know in terms of cholesterol.

Have you had your thyroid checked? If it's running even slightly below normal you can have elevated LDL. At least that's been my issue.
