450 LDL lowered to 130, My Cholesterol Results Are Back....has anyone else lowered their LDL on paleo?

My previous 505TC 450LDL thread: http://paleohacks.com/questions/86169/hack-my-ridiculous-blood-work-450-ldl-updated#axzz1vXU3Wy9t

My new results are in:

TC: 204 HDL: 61 LDL: 130 TRIG: 63

Im happy with this, what do you think? I stopped eating so many eggs and cut dairy waaay back (but not completely). Ive stuck with a lot of beef/chicken/fish and white rice/sweet taters as the bulk of my food. (with the occasional homemade cheesecake, sugar free of course)

Added:

"Congrats bro. What would you say are your current macronutrient ratios? Did you cut back on all fat as well or did you just cut back on dairy? Increased PUFA, lower SAFA?

A- Thanks, Im not calculating current macros but here is what it is - on training days I eat lean meat, low fat protein sources and simple carbs in the form of white rice/potatoes. On non training days I eat low/no simple carbs and lean meat, sometimes a bit more sat fat, and Ill consume olive oil/coconut oil on those days too (sometimes), it depends on my hunger or whether I am trying to burn off body fat.

How many eggs did you eat a day before? ??? At least 6 daily

Also where were you getting your eggs? - Mix of farm raised and cheap eggs (cholesterol wise, I think they are the same?)

ROB, my macros change from high car high protein days to high fat high protein days now. I cut back on anything with a lot of cholesterol in it. Continued eating beef/chicken/fish.

I stopped the casein and whey protein in place of eating whole foods. However, I don't buy it for a second that whey has any effect on TC whatsoever.

What it seems more and more reality is that there is not one size that fits all in paleo..

I fast as often as possible ala LeanGains, but when I do have to eat, I eat meat as eating carbs early in the day does absolutely nothing for me other than send my blood sugar and insulin levels on a roller coaster ride, so i figure, why bother? Eating non carb foods keeps my blood sugar/insulin/physical well being in check all day without a problem

I stopped eating breakfast which was eggs/bacon/veggies and heavy cream with coffee, and fasted til lunch. I stopped the heavy cream shinanigans and drink it black or with fat free milk on occasion.

Can you make this into a more general question, like "Has anyone else lowered their LDL on paleo?"

This are very good results! I don't agree at all with people that say that very high cholesterol is good. I think being in the low 200s is good, being at 300 or more is definitely bad. Cholesterol is not the cause of mortality but it's a sign of something being off. One hypothesis is hypothyroidism. Modern hunter gathers do not exhibit such super high TC values.

Also, it seems that 30% of the population do get a rise in LDL with increased egg consumption. I had a fairly high TC in December and I am going to retest soon, if it's not decreased I will cut down on eggs.

I recommend this podcast: http://www.askthelowcarbexperts.com/2012/02/6-all-things-lipids-cholesterol-101-chris-masterjohn/

I would say you missed the mark. The lower your total cholesterol the greater your mortality. That is what I am concerned about. The Framingham study showed that the logest lived people had an average cholesterol of 340. The Seven Country study of Europe(not Ancel Keys study) showed the longest lived people had an average cholesterol of 260. That is the group I am looking the join...the longest lived...Please read Malcolm Kendriks or Barry Groves.http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/

Great news. What do you eat for breakfast now that you cut back on eggs? My LDL doubled after going off lipitor 3 months ago...Could it be due to taking 5g of fish oil daily?

According to this [link text][1]http://renegadewellness.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/cholesterol-mortality-chart.pdf lowest all cause mortality occurs around the 220 total cholesteral level. Between 200 and 240 is the sweetspot.

Sorry if the link doesn't work, its my first try at posting one.

I've also seen curves on cardiovasular event rates versus triglycerides and if your trig is below 60 or so cardiac risk is almost non existant. I know these are just correlations but it seems the best data we have so far.

Thank you for the update. I remember reading your earlier post awhile ago. I'm struggling to bring my ever increasing cholesterol back down. I'll have to try cutting out eggs for a bit and see what happens, even though I've had good cholesterol numbers while consuming 2/day. Maybe 3+/day is what is getting me.

Do you still consume the Whey protein? It seems from lurking over on MDA that some people seem really sensitive to it and it increases their cholesterol numbers.
