Melville stevia chocolate bars

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created February 05, 2012 at 4:05 PM

Has anyone tried Melville Candy Company's stevia sweetened chocolate bars? 98% chocolate and 2% stevia. It's the only chocolate sweetened with just stevia and is only available from the company (online), not in stores. Not cheap.

I find it interesting how many here pretend to love bitterness. I think tolerate would be a more appropriate characterization, to get the taste of chocolate without the sugar. I eat 100% too but the Melville stuff is remarkably well done.

I got some and it's surprisingly good. If Melville is out the Dante product is the same thing. Google stevia chocolate. Very high quality tasting. There is vanilla in it too.

They sell only cooked salted or unsalted. I normally do raw only and soak but macadamias don't need to be soaked so I don't sweat it. You get a 10 oz bag for $8.50 or so. Not great but better than most places. I've been wanting to buy in bulk from Amazon but I'm afraid to that kind of quantity in my house.

I'm still waiting for the 1st Trader Joe's location to open around here (coming soon). What quantity of macadamia nuts do you get for a 100.00 at TJ's? The macadamia's you buy, are they raw or already roasted and salted? I've been buying mine off Amazon at around 1.00 per oz.

I'm totally grappling with the snacks too Richard. I bought $100 worth of macadamia nuts from TJ's and am eating my way through those but yes, too rich for my blood. I love their Lucques olives but at $4 a jar again way too much $. The chocolate is so darn good with hot tea so on cold days it's hard for me to resist. It's more reasonably priced though for sure. Still working on finding some cheap snacks. Love cheese and microwaved pepperoni/salami but way to many calories for me (for what I can eat). Sigh. I really need to learn to love cucumbers.

I am in a similar boat. I've eating way too much cheese and chocolate because I am trying to eat so called healthy snacks. You can only eat so much cheese but I've been eating about 1.5 oz of 85% chocolate for the past month and I think that is probably too much for me. Macadamia nuts are good but they are kind of pricey for me to eat a lot of.

It turns out Melville is just a distributor, the manufacturer is Dante Confections (google stevia chocolate)...I've bought it twice and it's terrific, very high quality and well made. They tell me it's a long process and they don't have enough for distributors at this point. I eat 100% too (or tolerate it) but to those who purport to love the bitterness of 100% (and probably enjoy sex on a bed of glass shards) this might be too pleasurable.

Well I've gotten a hold of the Melville stevia chocolate (under the name Dante) and it's remarkably good. I was very skeptical having made it myself and trying other's attempts but this stuff is the best I've had. All that's in it is chocolate (98%), stevia and vanilla. I was disappointed there was no cocoa butter as an ingredient but it works fine anyway. Tastes high quality. If Melvile is still out of stock google "stevia chocolate" for the Dante link...it's got to be the same product.

What exactly are the ingredients? If its just cacao/cocoa and stevia then I'd be all over it. It looks like its available at Sears which is strange to me. The price is not terrible. I'd still prefer to buy 85% from TJ's for only $1.49 per bar myself. This very bar I am talking about was featured in this month's issue of Paleo magazine!

In short, if I saw it in a store I'd try it.
