KFC Double Down yet?

Answered on August 19, 2014

hey all, dont get me wrong, fast food is all garbage. i know this. i dont eat the stuff. For a million reasons. However, i have to say that KFC's latest product, the double down, has piqued my interest. Prolly just cuz i havent had the stuff in years. At any rate, besides all the truly killer rancid O6s in the frying of this bastard, and the CAFO animals in there, i am kind of thinking of taking a sacrifice day and going for one. So, anyone on these boards gone for a double down yet? Tell us what you think! -ben

its funny if you don't read any of the words in your reply except for the macronutrient breakdown it sounds pretty near perfect for a snack or meal.

Not sure about overseas; but in New Zealand the KFC chicken actually *is* chicken!

+1 for trying the "original recipe" version! You're obviously not the intended target of a previous thread-- http://paleohacks.com/questions/5452/meta-are-paleohackers-becoming-irritatingly-dogmatic

I had it for fun and to see what the fuss was about. It was pretty tasty.

Absolutely not worth the cheat, of you're gonna eat garbage, better do it right...

Eat the absolute best tasting garbage, why sabotage your health for toxic meat?

We also made a paleo double down here: http://leanmeanroomiemachine.blogspot.com/2010/04/double-down.html The double chicken tenders was too much for me, but just one tender with some avocado and tomato? Heaven.

I tend to avoid KFC because of the way their chickens are treated. Not because I'm a PETA fanatic or anything though. I avoid regular factory eggs because of the crappy conditions for the chickens too. I figure that if the growing conditions are bad, the results are not the best either. Garbage in, garbage out.

Imagine where that "chicken" came from....and the 16 year old kids with unwashed hands preparing it. Not for me my friends....

I have tried it, both the grilled and the dreaded breaded versions. Both without the sauce though as I have always been condiment adverse. The grilled was salty and dry. The original recipe version was, taste wise, better. Health wise I would avoid this. Besides, "They put a chemical in it that makes you crave it fortnightly!" from "So, I arried an axe-murderer'.

Neither is a great choice but I had to give them a try!

As enticing as it seems from a taste perspective (because I'm curious as to what it actually tastes like), I just know there's not going to be much of a good outcome.

Translation: it's probably going to do naughty things to my stomach that I will regret roughly 30 minutes later. Call it "gut instinct." ;)

In Sweden they had the "low carb burger " At max. Max is a more conscious swedish fastfood franchise.

So the KFC double-down is finally in New Zealand (well, it will be as of 10:00 tomorrow morning!).

Still tempted to see how this works out! I love how the NZ 'health professionals' are condemning it:

"A single Original Recipe Double Down - which comprises two strips of bacon, cheese and "the Colonel's special sauce" encased in two chicken fillets - has 604 calories, 12.6 grams of carbohydrates, 57.6g of protein and a total of 34.4g of total fat - 11.9g of which is saturated fat."

Isn't saturated fat acceptable for us?

They have a grilled version, which I tried. Didn't realize it came with some kind of sauce. It was mediocre. If I had to rely on KFC for a meal I'd stick with the regular grilled chicken pieces.

No. Seems like a low carb lover's dream, but something seems off about it. I avoid KFC as a general rule.
