Does anyone else dream of cheating?

I constantly have dreams about eating doughnuts. I'm always eating doughnuts and cookies and then after I eat them all I stop and think, "Crap, I totally just ruined my diet." And then I usually wake up.

I remember one dream in particular, I was baby-sitting this fat kid and his cabinets were full of cookies, candy, little debbies snack cakes, doughnuts, oreos, etc. I ate all of his food. Haha. And then I felt like crap afterward of course and had that same "damn me" thought I always have.

I have the exact same dreams! I haven't had bread in at least a year, and sometimes I'll dream I ate bread, or gorged on three bowls of Special K with strawberries(used to be a big part of my diet). Thatnk goodness they're just dreams though! I haven't really felt the need to cheat during real life, I just don't see the positives in it, I like meat and veggies, I don't really feel restricted by Paleo.

I haven't had any cheat meals yet, but I have been editing my diet down for a long time before I actually went paleo. I don't condemn you at all for having cheat meals. Most people do it and the fact that you care enough to do something healthy for yourself is what is important. I really think this is great and congratulations. I will definitely be sharing your story with other people, assuming it's OK with you.

I totally agree. I think cheat meals are damn important for the pysche. That's not to say if you don't crave junk food, you should still eat it, but I think if you are dreaming about losing control of your diet over -one- meal, you have some food obsession dwelling in your conscious.

That's the dream I have - that I forget and eat whatever is served to me (like pasta) and then remember later and think 'Doh!' Not really a guilt thing though, just a worry that I'll accidentally sabotage myself. I guess it reinforces my attentiveness when awake. :)

I'm okay with it because even if I did cheat it wouldn't be the end of my world, I'd just happily hop back on the wagon.

Dream about it? No. I do it. Once a week I have a cheat meal or a cheat dessert. This isn't optimal, it isn't perfect, but it gives one "bad" meal out of 35... still a vast improvement over SAD (standard american diet). Indians have difficulty managing carbs like those of middle eastern, oriental, or european decent can. That's because 400 years isn't enough time for natural selection to kill of those who didn't adapt and those who did to pass on DNA...and since we have insulin and modern medicines like metformin...it's not going to happen. So to be healthy, we have to eat more like paleo...if one cheat meal a week enables us to be more successful with this...then that one is a good thing.

I didn't join a paleo cult so it's not blasphemy to do so, nor is it heretical to say so...it's just realistic for the real world.

Before anyone says, "but that's not real paleo"... I did use this way to change myself from 300 lbs at 60% body fat, get myself out of a wheelchair, get myself off of insulin and all diabetic meds, and control my multiple sclerosis without MS meds. Now I'm fit, healthy, 200lbs and sub 10% body fat.

I've had those dreams too! I'm always so relieved when I wake up that I didn't actually screw up my diet.

It's funny, I don't have willpower problems - I just worry I'll forget and pop something into my mouth. :)

Happens with a lot of people, not just paleos. When I was vegan, I used to have dreams where I was eating meat. And then I'd freak out because I was vegan.

YES. I dreamed about peanuts and icecream the other night! Same guilt, same relief when I woke up.

No, but Dr Davis has a story about that.

Marion sat in my office, sobbing... "I can't do it! I just can't do it! I've tried to eliminate wheat, but it's making me crazy. I'm having dreams about bread!"

Not just DREAMING, but DAYDREAMING. Boy. Sometimes I live in a fantasy land of carbs. Usually its grapes. Seemingly innocuous, no? But grapes nonetheless. Thoee are times when I (surprise!) eat more carbs than others, but carb day-dreams still happen to me even while eating VLC. I have yet to find that a sweet spot where my carb addiction doesn't haunt me--perhaps its just a matter of time--but its out there, and I'm quite certain it has something to do with IF, plentiful coconuts, generous portions, and very. large. steaks.

Yes. I was sitting on a bench feeding bread to ducks and I decided to eat the bag myself and the ducks attacked me and tried to eat me :(

When I'm awake I have no desire for grains, which is good. In my dreams and when I'm awake grains are dangerous.

When I first discovered that wheat was making me deathly sick (quite literally!) and I stopped eating it I would have nightmares about going on picnics and eating pizza and brownies. I would wake up and instinctly wait for that horrifying sick feeling. Then, of course, I would have to laugh with relief knowing I hadn't really eaten it! But I've been wheat-free for 7 months (I've only just gone full paleo in the last few weeks) and haven't had any of those kind of dreams since those first couple of months.

I always dream about eating sandwiches and coke. At least a couple of times a week. I wake up and realize that I didn't blow it, but I was pissed in my dream when I realized what I was doing.
