So I have been on a strict paleo diet for about a year. No dairy, legumes, sugar, wheat, and very little fruit. Carbs are pretty low, fat pretty high, and protein is moderate. I was on vacation last week and thought It would be alright to eat whatever I wanted for 5 days. Everything from cookies, cake, chocolate, pizza, burgers( all of which I havent ate for about a year). Ive now gotten extremely bloated with water retention. I think I developed edema in my legs and Im very worried now. Will this go away anytime soon? Im back on my normal routine but scared about my legs and water retention. This has never happened to me. Feet, ankles, and lower part of my legs have gotten swollen. I learned my lesson, but trying to figure out what I should do and when things will get back to normal..
Thanks in advance!!

Without going to the doctor you can try reducing the salt from your paleo diet until it subsides, along with compression socks or stockings, as well as an antihistamine in case you had a severe allergic reaction to one of the foods you ate. If none of that works I would recommend going to your doctor to rule out blood clots or other causes. Hope you feel better soon!

i have been paleo for three months now, and before i have been practising montignac diet for a few years. i just got back from holiday in thailand. there, i was eating everything, you know - LOTS od noodles, rice, cakes, pretty much anything that came along. swollen legs i thought i got from the plane ride, persisted through all holiday. i wasn't feeling bad in general, but legs were swollen beyond recognition, the feeling of my skin being too tight.
when i got back home, i switched back to paleo immediately. in two days i lost already 2,5 kgs, what i assume is mainly water, and my legs are almost back to normal. i plan to make a similar test in a few months to see if it was really the diet or something else
