Whoah.. The sun comes out and ALL I want is fish and the naughty fruit (tropical/summer).. should I go with it?

Wow was it EVER a instant change. We both went through the same thing at the same time too which was kind of funny. "hey did you notice a sudden fish craving...."

I cant seem to get enough fish!! I mean really.. I should stop before I get mercury overload. All I want other than fish is pineapple and watermelon (though in reasonably small portions not at every meal- once a day). Thats probably not so good.

So wanting nothing but fish and simple carbs over the summer.. is that normal? I have weight to lose should I fight it tooth and nail??? Has anyone else managed to lose weight by eating this way? It makes sense on one hand to no longer want the heavy rich winter foods.. but simple carbs???

  • Just looked up the carb content of pineapple- not nearly as bad as I thought. 20g per a whole cup of the stuff. I bet it is all fructose though but still.... perhaps I could work a cup (or less) in a day=) A cup of watermelon is only 11g?? Hmm..

You are seriously making me miss the taco truck in Tofino. Halibut tacos with fruit salsa made from mango, blueberries, and kiwi on blue corn tortillas (please look the other way while I enjoy the tortilla). It seemed to match perfectly with surfing. Do something physical, and then I say, have at it! That's what summer is all about.

I rarely eat fruit (mostly berries and very seldom bananas) but during the summer, I can't say no to mangoes.

I think it makes our enzymes less effective. That and denatured proteins are all I remember from biology lab haha. Thats interesting though - because pineapple and papaya both contain enzymes that can help us digest things and in the case of pineapple are anti inflammatory.

Are you chubby or obese? Because if you are just fluffy I say go nuts. Let your body guide you and just realize you'll be more anabolic while you do it. Hence the lift big, body-builder style. 3set 12 reps on a breakdown that fits with your schedule. Grow some muscle and then when you get tired of fruit adjust to lean out a bit.

That's funny, I just had a bunch of fish today for the first time in a long time. Have been craving fruit too...XD I don't see why having all the fruit would be a problem if you're also getting enough exercise. But I'm not an expert or anything!

Fish and fruit? Dude that pure protein and pure carbs. Cut whatever cardio you are doing, focus on weightlifting and call it a Tropical Bulk!!!

Relax and enjoy, I say, as long as your body reacts well to what you're eating.

I'm always reluctant to say anything about me is normal, but I've definitely experienced the same shift in appetite. Here in southern Nevada, we're expecting to top 100 this weekend and I have totally lost my appetite for hot morning coffee (but I'm chilling some :-)) and stews/starches.

I'm very hungry for non-starchy raw vegetables and fruit. I still like a little home-made yogurt and slow-fried beef, but otherwise I'm eating cold leftover meat or thawed cooked shrimp or canned sardines/salmon.

I'm sure when fall comes I'll suddenly get hungry for bone broth stew and rutabagas, but for me that's a full 6 months away. :-))

Fruit is NOT naughty. In the summer time of my youth I could have subsisted on melons and tomatoes and I wanted little to do even with much else (including starch, except for corn on the cob). This demonization of fructose and naturally occuring sugars in foods has GOT to stop!!

Fruit and fish sounds like a WONDERFUL summer diet to me. Just rotate the fish sources so you avoid any potential mercury issues.

"Should I enjoy everything or not?" go and ENJOY! I love eating fish every day, it is light and fresh and fantastic. That is what summer is for right? And fruit is not going to end the world. In summer we tend to consume less calories because of the temperature changes regardless.

Mmm, sounds like what I lived on in Mexico last summer - fresh fish and shrimp caught that morning, mangoes with salt and lime from a vendor on the beach. I'd say listen to your body, it has good tastes! :)

You worry too much.

I ate 300+ grams of carbs from fruits for months as Leangains PWO meals until I re-introduced white rice and sweet potatoes to my diet. Fructose (and sugar in general) is an overblown fear for those with healthy metabolism and appetite control.

Another one is mercury from fish. After reading this I stopped worrying, and loved the... fish.
